The Do-It-Yourself Tool Shed Thread vs Duct Tape Fixes EVERYTHING

excellent stuff, ta very much. :)

btw i bought that mitre saw, it's a fucking beasht!!! i'm delighted with it.

*counts fingers* ;)

This is the next power tool that I want... A Hitatchi cordless hammer drill. I can get them for about 300 bucks, and a few extra bob if I want a spare battery (although life would be pretty good being 18 volt)

@ klue: i know you're a big lad, but watch out for the weight of it. that one looks like it'll weigh a ton.

^ I used to use a 240 volt version of that drill and it's heavy yeah...but I do know that the 14 volt cordless ones are lighter. I probably don't need the hammer on a cordless, they will only get better into the future and I think I can make do with my old man's Makita hammer drill (which is Japanese too and it and others have lasted decades...)

I want the Hitatchi drill similar to that, maybe just a driver drill for my bush regeneration work. They are great for injecting systemic herbicide into woody weeds/ trees etc.

I love power tools :D

aye but mains powered tools don't have batteries, so they'll always be lighter. i've got an AEG mains drill that goes through walls like a hot knife through butter, it's a truly evil thing!

this is my cordless drill - a 14.4v one that is good enough for pretty much everything, except for drilling through brickwork. it's fucking excellent as a cordless screwdriver too.

(it came with a free torch as well, which uses the same battery)

I FUCKING LOVE POWER TOOLS TOO, RWAR!!! :D

first subscribed thread ever!
my tools are all geared toward auto repair :(

Right so I checked this out and the hammer drills are about 5 kilos each and the driver drills about 2kgs... so this sort of think might be more appropriate;

Just noticed they put a couple of LED lights in this Drill, LED is some amazing tech right now :)

what for? to tell you when you've got voicemail? ;)

that looks more like it though. you could go into a local DIY store and just pick up a few and see how they feel. some of them really weigh a ton, you'd need to be arnold schwarzenegger to work with them all day. so i use the 14.4 one for about 95% of my drilling & screwdriving, for the other 5% i dig out the corded one. if you're nowhere near an AC outlet then a 50mtr extension reel won't go wrong either!

Lost and found seems to think Bosch is a quality brand, I like Makita and Hitatchi because they are Japanese... I'm a total quality snob and wouldn't buy any less mate!

There are some good 14.4 volt drills that would make things cheaper for me, good thinking mate :)

If I won the lottery, I would have a workshop with all manner of woodworking tools & machines. There's nothing more satisfying than to make something from scratch.

BTW, I have loads of woodworking plans on my pc, so if anyone has any requests I can see if I have it.

Snap on are awesome (Well, I tried those Side Cutters and they were amazing) Has anyone seen these Ratcheting Wrenches???

This thread should be stickied imo ;)

This will probably be my next steel purchase...

It's USA made before 2004 when Schrade went to China... but I have heard gossip they are starting to make runs of knives in the US.

sweet thread, this is going to be one of my favourites. :D

my latest significant DIY purchase was my beloved Bosch jigsaw:

it has a L-A-S-E-R attached to the head to help you cut straight. %)

i used it to build a bird table, which was my wedding present to kate:

That is an amazing Bird House and a wonderfull wedding present, i hope the birds that frequent your garden enjoy it . It looks extremlty well stocked, on the flip side it makes me want customize my own aS I LUV garden birds and am blesed with many visitors 2 my garden .
Congratulations on your wedding and the splendid gift.

aww cheers man. :)

yeah, the birds love it. we get robins, blue tits, collared doves, starlings, magpies, crows and we even have a couple of regular squirrels! it's very enjoyable sitting at the kitchen table just watching them all, we love it. they get fed almost as often as the cat, lol.

i have renovated 2 houses and brought them up well above code . first was a hundred year old story and a halve pile of bricks . the second was a fifty year old pile of sticks .

electrical, plumbing, roofing, replacement windows, insulation, siding (on the stick built one), a complete hydronic hot water heating system (in the brick antique), landscaping, in short tons of sweat equity . i made a tidy profit from the sales of both of them .

now i have no mortgage and a fresh modular on three acres of forest land .

i did all this while working 40 + hours in a union shop . the hidden price is that my shoulders, hands and elbows are shot to shit, all bone on bone worn out .

most all of my furniture is of my own manufacture . i learned early on that plans were the way to go. my first chair was out of thin air, designed by myself and the fucking electric chair is more ergonomic than that monstrosity . it is still in service though but not in my home .

all the hardwood that i salvaged out of dumpsters and resawn to make stuff was a joy to my frugal side . now i have a 24x24 fully equipped shop that sees little in the way of work these days . my son will get all that equipment after i am pushing daisies .

cletus,
i still have my makita 9.6 v cordless drills and trim saw . in service 25 or so years with only one switch replacement . gone through a lot of ni-cad cell packs though .

they cost a king's ransom back in the day . now everything is really cheap though harbor freight but let the buyer beware ! quality is not always there in chinese hand power tools .

chinese stationary wood working equipment is a bargain but switches and other small stuff fails rather quickly . all easy to fix and the castings are perfect .

I'll be starting a new project in the next couple of months. I have an antique chamber pot table/cupboard that is around 100 yrs old. The finish on it is ratshit, so i'm going to sand it back and varnish it. :) I also have a tallboy (it's only raw pine, but really lovely), that i'd like to stain and varnish.
