According to the
Ashton Manual, both are the same potency, which is half the strength of diazepam.
I've not tried oxazepam myself because I've just never come across it and I'm not even sure it's prescribed in the UK, but from what I've read of it it's not very recreational and not really all that good for anxiety either.
I have used temazepam whenever I had the chance to pick it up because it's one of my favourite benzos. Despite the lack of potency, dosing to make up for that will feel real nice. It does kill anxiety, but it's also not really ideal if your goal is functional anxiety relief, because it has hypnotic and muscle relaxant effects that will have you melting as you lay in your bed monging out on the stuff. It's a lovely drug, but not the best choice for anxiety relief at all.
If you want a benzo you can get good anxiety relief from while staying functional, pyrazolam is a very good RC for the job, as is diclazepam. Out of the pharmas, a low dose of clonazepam compared to your tolerance is ideal - lasts all day, keeps you pretty clearheaded, and is an excellent anxiolytic. Only downside is that it can easily mess with your memory even at regular therapeutic doses. But that's just me, could be different for you.
Assuming no or low tolerance, a 0.5-1mg dose of any of those recommendations should do you good. I've got a mid-level tolerance and 1mg clonazepam is still great for all day anxiety relief. I'd recommend 0.5mg to someone benzo naive who wanted to use it functionally.
Alprazolam is commonly used but I do not recommend it for daily anxiety relief. For prn use if you're having a panic attack, it's a blessing. But it's not ideal for daily use at all. Not only is it too short acting but this also means because it's potent you get rebound anxiety and the urge to redose as a result.
Etizolam on the other hand I actually thought was great when I had regular cheap access to the stuff. It has a nice buzz and strong anxiety relief. 1mg is enough without tolerance. At that dose you will get a little buzz and euphoria but won't be too impaired either and you will see notable anxiolytic benefit.
Lorazepam is a very hit or miss benzo, it seems people either find it completely useless or really nice and there's not much middleground there. Personally I find it nice with good muscle relaxation and a soft chilled euphoria and it is a good anxiolytic for me too but I need 2mg for it to do anything and the duration is a little on the short side, not as much as alprazolam but still fairly short.
Bromazepam is one of my favourites but it's only prescribed in a relatively small number of countries compared to most pharma benzos so it can be hard to find. 3mg with low tolerance is likely enough. 6mg with a tolerance. It's like a combo of diazepam and alprazolam. You get the soft calmness and muscle relaxation of diazepam, but the potency and strong anxiety relief from alprazolam. You do also get a fairly short duration too though, so that's one you probably would need to redose.
Finally there's the obvious diazepam, but I found it made me too monged out to be functional and I appreciate how clonazepam keeps me more clearheaded. Obviously lower doses mong you out less, but they also provide not enough anxiety relief if you have even a little tolerance. It's hard to get anxiolytic benefit from diazepam without being monged out too. At least that's what I found.
