McAvoy was pretty good in this, but damn was this a messy movie.

It could have been Oscar worthy if a decent director made it. And they had a decent script. And the supporting cast was better.

And the twist at the end wasnt something from Heroes or some bullshit.

Its always M Nite Shamading-dong has some decent idea and then fucks it up royally where they could have made it good.

Certain things were good in this but if you want to seek some underground drama go watch 10 Cloverfield Lane. Miles ahead better.

I think if you go in with B-movie expectations you will be pleasantly surprised.

Fact is, these were two very "small" movies that relied heavily on a single charismatic actor portraying an extremely disturbed character. Take away Mcavoy or Goodman...not much left. In my opinion, Shamalayn deserves credit for showing some restraint in Split. There wasn't really a traditional Shamalayn twist in it. The last scene was more of an easter egg than anything. Didn't change the events of the film whatsoever.
