NUIT BLANCHE
Originating in Paris in 2001, Nuit Blanche translates literally as “White Night”, and is an all-night contemporary arts festival held annually in a handful of major cities around the world. Melbourne is staging it’s first White Night Festival on 23 February 2013 when the city will come alive from dusk until dawn in a one night celebration of music, theatre, dance, design, food, film, fashion, and art.

SOUND LOUNGE
Returning by popular demand and following the success of the Sound Lounge two part series staged in the Hamer Hall foyer in August/September 2012, Arts Centre Melbourne and Mad Heckler will present Sound Lounge Nuit Blanche as part of the White Night Melbourne program. With a carefully picked selection of both European and local Melbourne DJs, the event will continue the Sound Lounge story while staying true to the original motif; offering a cross genre musical experience with a laidback atmosphere in a very unique Melbourne space, the Hamer Hall stalls foyer.

ALI B (AIR / UK)
Widely regarded as the DJ’s DJ, Ali B is a man whose remarkable history in the scene shines through every time he hits the decks. From working behind the scenes as a teenager for Gilles Peterson’s Acid Jazz record label, to handling PR for the likes of Norman Jay and Pete Tong, to presenting a hugely influential weekly show on London’s Capital FM for 5 years, before setting up his renowned Air Recordings label, Ali B has crafted a sound that knows no boundaries. Initially making his mark at London’s legendary Blue Note club he went onto hold a decade long residency at London’s iconic Fabric and now hosts his own exclusive Air parties as well as presenting arenas and stages at some of the worlds most notable festivals such as Glastonbury, Global Gathering, Burning Man and Australia’s Future Music Festival. While once known primarily as one of the leading lights in the breakbeat scene, Ali’s sound has evolved into what can only be described as a non-stop party as his sets seamlessly take in everything from blues, funk and hip hop to rock, soul, dub, disco and beyond. His stature as a DJ on the cutting edge of the nufunk sound gives him access to an endless supply of exclusive bootlegs and remixes provided by DJs, producers and remixers from every corner of the globe, all of which are artfully captured on his ever popular series of ‘Oh Shit!’ mix tapes and ‘Airpod’ podcasts.

SON OF KICK (UK)
Since first emerging in 2008 with his widely praised remixes of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Like I Love You’ and Jay Z’s ‘Ignorant Shit’, West London-based producer DJ, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Son Of Kick has cut a unique path across electronic music working at the intersection between bass music’s many mutating strands. This Frenchman has racked up releases for the Stanton Warriors’ Beats imprint, pioneering London label Botchit & Scarper and, in November 2012, an EP for revered US imprint Smog featuring Virus Syndicate and Foreign Beggars. His 2011 single ‘Playing The Villain’ on American label MUTI Music scaled the top 20 in Beatport’s dubstep chart and the contentious and critically acclaimed video for that single, has received over seven million views on youtube to date. His touring schedule continues to stretch out ahead of him, having smashed festival slots from SXSW to Burning Man to Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival as well as a string of recent dates performing a live show with Death In Vegas drummer, Dave Neale. Catch him dropping a capellas from Method Man or rocking snippets from the Violent Femmes alongside his own productions. Expect a hybrid Live/DJ set with glitches, bleeps, wobbles, and kick patterns, all wrapped under an umbrella of heavy bass.
