Silk Road 2: Doing a roaring trade in drugs, weapons… and Tesco Clubcard vouchers
Sunday 9 Mar 2014

Guns, drugs and pornography have long been sold on the black market Silk Road website but now it appears knock-off supermarket vouchers are the goods of choice.

Screen grabs taken from Silk Road 2.0, the successor to the original banned ‘underground marketplace’, showed Tesco Clubcard vouchers as the most popular item on the site.

Coupons worth £100 were being sold for £43 by a seller under the pseudonym ‘Revivalry’, according to the Observer.

Tesco, who have known about the fraudulent sale of its vouchers for several months, confirmed the case is being looked into and that none of its customers would lose out.

‘We have referred the matter to the police and will assist them with their inquiries,’ a spokeswoman for the supermarket said.

Silk Road 2.0 can only be accessed using the Tor browser and with special URLs which cannot be found using conventional search engines.

Items currently listed on the site include a gram of uncut Peruvian cocaine for $100 (£60) and a gram of party drug ketamine for $37 (£22), although most items are bought using the virtual Bitcoin currency.

Experts believe the prominence of drugs on the Silk Road suggests the ‘dark web’ could transform drug dealing in the same way the internet altered the distribution of music and film.

Weapons aren't sold on the Silk Road, haven't been since before SR 1 got shut down. Wondering how the investigation into vouchers will be done, I always imagined they were being made by someone inside Tesco's so they were authentic.

They weren't being sold on silk road 1 by the time it got shut down either. Also who would go to silk road for pornography?

I sometimes i chat with the homeless guys downtown who are hooked on oxycontin and before Christmas they were selling various gift cards like there was no tomorrow. I wonder how companies can not know this is going on. Or how some hobos have a bunch of hacked cards, although i assume its organized crime at the top doing it. I would be scared shitless to attempt to buy something with a stolen/fraudelent gift card or coupon myself but looks like a big business.

Wouldn't a homeless person be hooked on heroin, which is much cheaper than oxycontin, and better in every way?
