I should add that abuse isn't always physical. Long-term emotional abuse can be devastating as I know from experience. After 6 months of abuse I walked out. I didn't tell social services because I didn't know that men could be victims of abuse. It took me years and the love of a good woman to put me in a place where I can accept it as part of my past.
