Redosing after IV medication

So I?m in and out of the hospital at least a few times a year for a health flare up. When I go I?m always placed on an IV opiate, generally Dilaudid. But when I leave the hospital after my admittance, when I come home and take my hydrocodone I take chronically it never works. Like even if I space out the last IV Dilaudid dose and my home hydrocodone dose, have an empty stomach, potentiating etc, nothing happens. For something that is IV, I always find this strange. The first day I return home I generally feel like garbage as all the IV pain, nausea, fluid, etc medication is diminished. Any suggestions on how long of time needed or other helpful tips? Thanks

Dilaudid by IV packs a punch so it's no wonder that you find your regular hydrocodone underwhelming. What I've found can help is having some food in my stomach just because I get nauseated without. Can you take ibuprofen or Naproxen sodium? They can give opiate pain meds a boost.
