Misc Probably a stupid question, but can you put lidocaine cream in your mouth?

It's says "not for internal use" but I have terrible gum/tooth pain and a topical anesthetic sounds perfect. I put some of my nieces teething gel on it and it's actually kinda helped but the pain is still throbbing.
I have Tramadol or Co-Codamol if either of those would help?

Yes, you can put lidocaine cream in your mouth. It's just that creams are greasy and not pleasant orally.

Any idea why so many manufacturers use benzocaine in oral pain products instead?

I don't think it matters much which topical suffix -caine drug you use, unless of course you are talking about cocaine! Dentists used to use clove bud oil for the same purpose.
