Hi folks --

Peyote growing question: My buttons are turning light green and I can't work out if that's because it is getting too much or too little light. It's a hot & dry environment and they are currently getting some direct sunlight but mostly indirect sunlight. Any advice much appreciated!

(Pulling out the mescaline sub-thread b/c this is a pretty specific question & buried in the sub-thread, apologies for the re-post.)

This can result from either condition (too much or too little light). If I were you, I'd do an experiment. Put half your cactuses in a little bit more light, the other half in a little more shade, and see which group does better after a couple days. Just be sure not to leave them too long because they could take some mild damage from being in too heavy sun

If they are young they may not like strong sunshine . Any pinkish or brown coloring indicates too much light [ sunburn ] . Young ones do best in filtered [ or dappled ] sunlight . I use an insect screen until they harden up . After a year or so they should handle full sun . They grow really fast when grafted to San Pedro .
