My Dr sent me to pain mngt to have them take over my RX since my doctor can't write RX for a longer period. The Dr said he doesn't write RX on first visit...just great, why are you in business? Second visit he pee tests me. I told him I'm under care of cannabis MD who has also provided me with a certificate plus the prescribed medication. Well, now he has a problem with the cannabis although it's medical and legal in my State. Says it looks bad in my file and he's not going to write the prescription. All he says he can do for me is cut me open and install an implant that has wire leads into my spine. There will be a battery hanging out of my side. God forbid I take a non invasive pill!! I'm 74, have an extremely painful nerve disease and am not going along with his ridiculous idea. It's maybe at b3st 75% effective. I've heard some pretty terrible stories. This jerk is supposed to help me with pain. Not capitulate to his crude EXPENSIVE and NOT covered by insurance. Why the hell would I do this? The overwhelming fear of opioids is really trying and I'm freaking sick of it. I've been responsible from day one, no problems with the patient. But damn, the patient has more than their share of pain, frustration, heartache and lies than is expected. This shit must end. This Dr has referred me out to some neurologist who is expected to care for me. This will be neurologist #4 and the "pain clinic" was #5. I'm sick of being lied to, patronized, disrespected and blown off. This is outrageous. Another letter to my Congressman. F this Shit

I'm very sorry you're going through this. Definitely don't give up, if you need to see another doctor, I would just go that route until you find one that works for you. Also, you could always look into taking kratom. It's legal, safer than opioids, and helps with pain. It can cause dependence as well with chronic use.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's ridiculous that the Dr won't give opiates to a 73 year old with proven pain issues. Goodness, wouldn't want to "ruin your life" with addiction. How about fucking making you more comfortable in the time you have left. I'm assuming you aren't working any more.
But, he'll cut you open and hang a battery from you. At 73... 75% effective... Fucking hell.

He said it all. It won't "look good" for him to do his job as a doctor properly.

Are you familiar with Prednisone, have you tried that? I find that nothing works better for chronic pain. 20mg (or even 10mg) per day is all you need. Problem solved.

I’m so sorry I have chronic pain also and am prescribed opioids and I understand the frustration and hell the DEA has caused for patients and doctors.

I have no idea how we can get some traction to fix this as a society. But you are hated because you take opioids. You are a de facto drug addict even though you are not truly a drug addict it seems.

If you want any shot at this you have to quit weed at least for one month then store a bunch of weed free piss with your prescribed opioid in it in your freezer. This pee you will warm a little bit before your doctors visits with a ski glove warmer and submit that as your sample. I did that for about a decade.

Weed makes my pain worse though so it might be worth trying to take a break.

Are you in a US state? In California for example the state and county medical boards have released pro opioid guidelines that explicitly state that when a patient is transferred opioids should be written on the first visit and the medication should not be interrupted.

Start again. Also my primary care has prescribed for me for a decade now…your primary can too; he just doesn’t want the heat from the law enforcement.

all the pain doctors were arrested or scared out of business in my city of 3 million people. We only have two pain specialist with a schedule 2 license left to serve 3 million ppl; this was told to me by a sympathetic pain doctor whose clinic was harassed and threatened by the DEA until they lost their schedule 2 license.

You have to get your entire file from previous showing the drugs you were on. Your family doc will give you, take to pain clinic. This med works best and you tried all others. You’re a tolerant patient and take as prescribed. You can’t afford other treatment and is unlikely

Opioid
NSAID as needed
Gabapentinoid (Pregabalin Lyrica) ?
Cannabinoids

swimming physical exercis (even if you dont)
healthy diet

this is what worked for you after years of trying best combo….and you’d like to resume the treatment that’s worked best for you 5 years + etc

Worded in a nice manner, he’d probably review your file, meds, repeats, etc….and should feel comfortable prescribing.

The irony is that these docs and hospitals, so called ‘care providers’ act as if they give a shit about your pain. All they worry about is legal. There’s a war on people. As if they are so worried about addiction or overdose. Does anybody remember mandatory injections and the culling of the population taking place? Depopulation while making money off of cancer treatments and other maladies brought on by the grand experiment. All that matters is money. It’s easier now to get methadone than pain medication in some states for a legitimate spinal injury which requires surgery. We live in a sadistic society which does indeed resemble an open air prison.
