Hi, I need some advice for extreme pain. An accident has damaged tendons and ligaments in my left hand, wrist & forearm. My pain scale would be a12, as I am crying from the pain. Hospital gave me 10 mg. hydrocodne which did not touch the pain, referred me to a pain specialist and sent me home. Hurt so bad that I can't move my arm/fingers & still crying
I don't know what to do. HELP!

Go back to emerg and explain that your still in pain and need something that works until you can see the pain doc

cant really give you medical advice, but you prob need some kinda anti inflammatory (advil, naproxen)
I would get in touch with your GP or and ortho to advice you what to take.

I have compassion for your situation, but there's nothing we can do for you really. It's entirely between you and your prescribers. The best we can tell you is to go back to the emergency department and make sure they're aware of how much pain you are actually in. I agree with the sentiment of using OTC analgesics like Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil), but truthfully, it's probably not going to be enough to control your pain.

My advice would definitely be to see a different prescriber and get another opinion.

A second opinion is a very good idea. I wouldn't explicitly ask for narcotics, but you should tell your doctors that your current prescriptions are not helping.

Good luck. Really hope you're able to get the help you need.

lol. they will just call him a junkie and give him tylenol. you have to be bleeding to death to get pain meds in an ER.

you need to find a good pain doc. In this day and age of a heroin/fent epidemic most people with horrible pain are left to suffer with no medicine or get heroin...thereby exaccerbating the heroin epidemic which is causing the unavailability of pain meds for those in legit pain.

if you are young you will have huge issues getting your pain treated but good luck. If you have medical documentation of trauma (MRI's etc) it will help you. stay off of all illegal drugs because they will drug test you if they give you pain meds.

if your pain is not permanent you should be able to get through it one way or another. good luck. and as the previous poster said whatever you do do not ask for a stronger dosage of opioids, just say that the hydro barely helps the pain. if you say it doesn't help whatsoever they can reject you based on that as well.

When did you hurt yourself? If the hospital referred you to a pain specialist, then go see one. What you can try in the meantime is some ibuprofen or motrin along with the hydrocodone they gave you.
