I know that morphine and codeine are non toxic and naturally occuring. But how do deaths occur then. It slows the breathing and you die from that, but it seems like the morphine is still the cause of death there. You dont die like you would from caffeine toxicity or coke toxicity, but how is it different to die from a form of toxicity than a non toxic drug.

Also i saw a thread about of u had a machine to breath for u if u could do unlimited heroin, would that be true? Lastly has anyone died from there heart stopping from opiates or is it always asphyxiation?

'Toxicity' as a topic in general is incredibly loosely defined by science in general.

We must examine the matrix of terminology.

Toxicitiy <- Toxicant <- Toxin

A toxin is simply a biological 'poison.' So now we're looking at whether or not morphine is, by definition, a poison. A poison is essentially anything harmful to the body, so definitions of toxicity are vastly different within context.

Morphine is non-toxic, given that 'morphine' is defined within the medical industry as a medicine that is standardized for safe usage. But if you go ahead and shoot up a couple grams of morphine at home with an old rusty 10ML that you put your horse Sally down with last Easter, you've now contextually redefined morphine as a toxic substance.

Well something like alchohol would still be poisonous to the liver no matter what the dose is. Opiates dont seem to damage any internal organs the way other drugs do. I remember reading somewhere that no one ever deid from heroin but the respitory depression where alchohol and caffeine litwrally damage internal organs. And im taking about just safely swallowing the pill or safely iving the ivable substance with a clean needle
