Police officers in New York are “manufacturing” criminal offenses by forcing people with small amounts of marijuana to reveal their drugs, according to a survey by public defenders.

Under New York law, possession of 25g or less of marijuana [merely] brings a $100 fine. Only when the drugs are in public view are the police permitted to make an arrest for drug possession. One in three respondents said police had forced them to take the marijuana out of pockets or from under clothes and produce it into public view.

This has been going on for a while now. It's known in NY to let THEM pull the everything out of your pockets and not YOU. Kind of a disgusting tactic to use on people, but to expect anything less in the "war on drugs" would be foolish.

Legalization in NY isn't that close IMO, but I like to stay positive hoping one day the right people will push it on listening ears.

You don't legally have to show a cop anything, as long as it isn't a blade 6" or longer.

They Jam people that don't know any better. it's usually a result of a "stop and frisk", which has been subject to heavy criticism because of the profiling.

I live in the state of IL. so as far as legalization how close are they?

Far. Maybe some form of decrim for possession on the horizon in Chicago, but med pot has been stalled several times, and will be limited to few disease states. The AMA olds so much sway here that Illinois will be the last northern state to taste reform.
