NJ Detox... I need advice NEW HOPE

I'm currently on the waiting list to get into New Hope in Marlboro, NJ for detox... the waiting list for detox is shorter than the rehab (I need rehab). In the past, I've taken advantage of NY's liberal treatment system where all you have to do is show up at a hospital wreaking of booze and they will give you a detox bed. I'm trying to get into this NJ rehab, but I'm not sure if I can wait 2-3 weeks, so I was advised that it will be better to go to the detox first and then I will be given a rehab bed.

What worries me is that I don't know what I should be dirty for. If I go into stinking like booze, will they observe me for early signs of seizures and DTs, or will they just err on the side of caution and give me a room... If they tell me they have an available bed, I don't have enough time to warp my brain with alcohol to show a life threatening emergency.

Or do I have to piss positive for opiates and then demonstrate symptoms for the first 24 hours. They medicate with suboxone there.

I'm worried that I will be turned away... please help if anybody has any advice or prior experience with New Hope or any detox in NJ

Last time i got in a hospitial detox i had to tell them i was suicidal :(. But it is probably differant in the north east. Alabama sucks like that

Tell them your an alcoholic. Drink some vodka or something before going so it'll show up on a breathalyzer and they'll take you right away, plus insurance companies will pay a lot easier and for much longer.

That's the way it works in New York. I've been to Staten Island University Hospital a few times, but I was wondering if they do the same thing in NJ. If they'd observe for signs of shaking and whatnot before medicating.

My drugs of choice are heroin then alcohol, but I'm not currently dependent on either.

I've never been to a detox in NJ but from what I hear, they all pretty much run the same way regardless of the state.

Go on a run with the heroin so you have w/d from it and show up smelling like booze. That way they will know you need the detox bed. If they admit you to the detox and you have no symptoms of w/d will they still keep you there?

If you're not positive for anything and you don't have a habit, why do you wanna go to rehab? all they're gonna do is harass you, make you clean the place everyday, and tell you to go to meetings everyday for x number of months!

Unless you're planning on going to a rehab like the one Eric Clapton has in Florida, with organic foods, spa treatment and million dollar specialists, most rehabs don't really tell you anything you can't learn by just going to 12 step meetings and having an out-patient therapist.

But who am I to judge? If you think you need to get away from it all and be in a structured environment, that's your choice, but I personally have PTSD from the way I've been treated at a lot of rehabs....I've had good counselors in rehab before, but the "clipboard cowboys" who chase you around and try to catch you breaking every little rule are just too much for me to handle without wanting to kill someone within 2 weeks of getting there....

Not being able to make phone calls, being made to go to bed at 11 regardless of whether or not you're tired, being made to participate in activities you have no interest in....I'm all set!

^ My question was more of why would you want to go to detox if you don't have a habit. I can't knock someone for wanting to go to rehab if they want to quit for good, but they should skip the detox if they don't need it. Some people will want to stay clean after going to a 28 day program because they feel like it would have been a waste of time/money if they pick up again after they get out, and although that's not the best reason to stay clean, it's better than going back to using. The problem with that mindset is that if they use once after getting out then they will have felt like they blew it so will continue to use, rather than a person that wanted to quit for them, so would seek out more help if they relapsed.

Yeah, I definitely don't see the purpose of going to detox if you're not strung out. Just wait for a bed to open up at a rehab. For the county/state places that are free, it's hard to get into, but you just have to call every day and show them you're serious. Then when a bed opens up, they'll get you in. They don't want people who are going to waste their time.

For private places it's usually easier to find a bed but you have to pay and depending on your insurance, you might have to pay a percentage which can end up still being a lot.

Yeah i agree with tommy and blue most rehabs dont offer much more than what is gotten for free at a NA meeting
