Four revellers overdose on drugs at Sydney dance festival

Police shut down a dance party at a venue overnight after a number of partygoers were taken to hospital from suffering suspected drug overdoses.
Around 5,000 revellers who attended the Genesis Black Subculture trance music event at Hordern Pavilion in Moore Park, Sydney were ejected from the venue in the early hours of Monday morning.
Officers from Surry Hills Local Area Command and the Dog Unit conducted a drug operation at the venue from 7pm on Sunday, a NSW police spokesperson said.

During the operation, police became concerned by the number of drug-affected patrons and evidence of drug supply at the event.
Paramedics were called to the venue to treat four patrons believed to be suffering from drug overdoses before they were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for further treatment.
About 2am, police returned to the venue and issued a short-term closure order to the promoter and licensee, during which the event was shut down an hour before it was scheduled to end.

The company has since posted on social media, saying it was 'disappointed' with the early closure
On the official Genesis website, the company said it had a 'zero tolerance' on illegal drugs and 'patrons caught with illicit substances at Genesis Black will be ejected from the venue.'

They shut the party down 1 hour before it was supposed to finish, why bother.

Did they shut defqon down when they had more OD's and a death?

Why not allow pill testing tents and stop the sniffer dogs then less people would be harmed by drugs. police should only be going after violent people at such events imo, not drug users. If they have to put a few plain clothes cops at the party looking out for big dealers, but seriously why bother, does it really achieve anything arresting a bunch of people for drugs?

Zero tolerance to illegal drugs does not work.

I hear you brother. This is my #1 issue concerning harm reduction in Australia.

What Dr David Caldicott did for us in the early 90's with RaveSafe and pill testing at events needs to occur again. DanceWize are a similar group now but we need to be allowed to do this legally.
