A new cell permeable analog of acetylcystine, n acetylcystineammide has been found. It is just NAC with an additional amide group. This gives it high lipophilicity allowing it to easily cross the blood brain barria and all cell membranes. NACA has much greater antioxidant power and reducing propities than NAC as well as lower toxicity at high doses when compared to NAC. In addition, NACA can directly reduce oxidised glutathione to its active reduced state
Given these advantages why isn't NACA more popular. Has anyone tried NACA?
