I am currently prescribed 10 mg/day methadone to treat my restless leg syndrome. I also take 40 mg/day of citalopram which I have been on for three years. I am relatively new to the methadone, taking about four months now. My Sleep dr tells me that the citalopram is antagonistic to my restless leg issue and suggested taking me off citalopram to improve my RLS. He wants me to switch to another anti-depressant. So far I have tried Trazodone and Wellbutrin but both left me with negative mood effects so I switched back to the citalopram. Does anyone know if SSRIs actually do antagonize RLS and if so is there any other options to suggest to my doctor? Also, is methadone and SSRI safe? Could one be negating the effects of the other? BTW the issue I have had that the citalopram treats is depression with general thoughts of hopelessness. No issues with anxiety in my case, just wanted to mention that in case it was relevant.
Thanks!
