Real estate agent Tony Tran accused of cultivating commercial quantity of cannabis

A REAL estate agent is accused of tricking eight property owners into leasing out commercial spaces which were allegedly turned into clandestine hydroponic greenhouses growing more than 2000 cannabis plants.

One owner has described her horror at finding interior walls knocked down, a kitchen ripped out and holes in the ceiling and floor after allegedly letting real estate agent Tony Tran, 36, lease her premises.

Tran did not enter a plea when he faced Burwood Local Court on 14 charges including nine of knowingly taking part in cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis, after police seized almost 2500 plants from eight properties.

It follows a separate incident in which another real estate agent was banned for 10 years after he was jailed for allowing a tenant to grow cannabis at a rental property.

Hang Thinh Do is appealing against NSW Fair Trading’s 10-year ban on his licence, saying he has turned over a new leaf.

Tran is accused of leasing the eight premises with fraudulent documents containing bogus company names and referees.

Strikeforce Grassy officers raided the eight properties Tran had allegedly leased between July 2013 and December 2014, finding hundreds of cannabis plants at each property.

One owner said she discovered her commercial property at Stanmore had been turned into a hydroponic setup when she went to speak to the tenant about overdue rent and walked in to darkness. The woman said the kitchen had been ripped out, a wall had been knocked down in a bedroom and there were holes in the ceiling and floor.

“They made it like it wasn’t a house any more,” she said, adding it took six months and “lots of money” to repair the damage.

Tran’s case will return to Burwood Local Court on June 8.

The Civil and Administrative Tribunal has adjourned Do’s case to June 7.

HMAS Darwin: Australian navy warship seizes $800m heroin haul

06fd4faa32087fd521b8c3ccac5ab7d1

ALMOST $800 million worth of heroin has been seized during three massive drug busts off the coast of Africa using an Australian Navy ship.

The crew of HMAS Darwin — under the leadership of a British-led combined taskforce, which is responsible for counter-terrorism operations in the Middle East — seized over 950kg of the deadly drug in total.

HMAS Darwin’s helicopter spotted the first suspicious vessel on May 21. With the support of a US-led Combined Maritime Force surveillance aircraft, a search of the boat uncovered 380kg of heroin.

Two more suspicious vessels were identified and intercepted on May 22 and May 25 — the second boat was carrying a staggering 512kg of heroin and the third has a stash weighing 60 kilograms.

Commander Phillip Henry, Commanding Officer Darwin, praised the work of the crew members, saying the operation would hit terrorist organisations hard.

“Traffickers constantly try to find new ways to hide cargo, but our boarding parties’ training, techniques and equipment evolve and we continue to find and dispose of seriously large quantities of illicit goods,” he said.

“The best part about our involvement in these operations is that we are able to remove a significant portion of funding from terrorist organisations.

“With the help of our CMF partners, both at sea and ashore, we have had tremendous success in tracking down suspicious vessels and uncovering drugs hidden away on several of them.

Chief of Joint Operations Vice Admiral David Johnston said the drug seizures raised the Royal Australian Navy’s total haul of narcotics to more than four tonnes since the start of Operation MANITOU.

“Darwin’s combined efforts under CTF-150 is a good example of how we are improving the overall maritime security, stability and prosperity in the region by denying terrorist organisations their ability to move personnel, weapons or drugs, and obstructing their capacity to raise funds,” he said.

“These seizures take the Royal Australian Navy’s total of narcotics interdicted to more than four tonnes since the start of Operation MANITOU,” Vice Admiral Johnston said.

The latest busts comes after HMAS Darwin’s boarding team uncovered and seized a large weapons cache including AK-47 assault rifles and rocket propelled grenade launchers — bound for Somalia — off the coast of Oman in March.

Aghhhhhh!!!!!

God that's painful to read.

I wish I had $800 million (or whatever the real non-pretend for the press release) worth of heroin to myself :(

I promise it'll still wind up destroyed in the end, and if taking it for free is what I have to do to ensure those nasty freedom hating terrorists don't make money off it. Well then that's what I'm willing to do, for my country*, as a patriot. :)

* Or countries I suppose, I'm a dual citizen. Goooo Australia!, Goooo USA!!! I'll happily volunteer to dispose of all that heroin and not pay the terrorists a cent. As is my patriotic duty. For both countries.

That is a FUCK TON of heroin they had to be supplying the whole country maybe even some neighoring areas like New Zealand getting some of it?

Maybe. But there are a lot of heroin users in Australia.
Fuck the Australian Navy. I have no respect for their acts of piracy.

There is no indication the boats were headed to Oz. Doesn't look like they were setup for that journey. Those boats are more regional.

^ Yeah who knows? I'd guess at not much at all. There are probably other huge loads going in various ways all over the globe on any given day from boats to planes to trucks etc etc..

When they mention that a huge crystal meth bust has been done on it's way into Australia it doesn't seem to make any difference to availability or prices one little bit.

More than 80 pounds of fentanyl laced with heroin was seized by Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force after officials along I-75.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid pain reliever typically used to treat chronic pain in cancer patients, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Fentanyl is the same drug linked to the death of musician Prince. According to the CDC, the drug is said to be 100 times stronger than morphine and 50 times more powerful than heroin.

Officials originally discovered the drugs during a traffic stop in March, Channel 2 reported. Initially thinking it was cocaine, Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined it was fentanyl.

The drug bust is one of the largest in the U.S., Capt. Mike Mayton told Channel 2. Mayton said the drugs were more than likely made in a factory in China then shipped to Mexico before arriving in Georgia.

Mayton told Channel 2 he is not sure if the drugs were supposed to be delivered to Georgia or passing through the state.

Even more methamphetamine found in Northland sand dunes

Police have found even more methamphetamine hidden in sand dunes in the country's largest ever meth bust.

Police initially said their 90 Mile Beach bust had seized 448kg of the drug, but later on Tuesday said they had found another 50kg in the sand.

No value was given of the latest find, but the new find brings the total to 494kg, with a likely value of close to half a billion dollars.

Australian Border Force (ABF) investigators have charged a 31-year-old Sydney man with importing 20kg of ephedrine concealed in hair brushes.

On 17 June 2016, ABF officers targeted a parcel from China addressed to a residence in West Ryde, New South Wales.

The officers examined the parcel of hair brushes which were found to have concealments of powder. Initial testing of the substance was positive for ephedrine.

Following further investigation and warrant activity, the man was charged with the following:

1 x intentionally import prohibited tier 1 goods, contrary to Section 233BAA(4) of the Customs Act 1901,
1 x convey/possess prohibited imports/prohibited exports, contrary to Section 233(1)(D) of the Customs Act 1901,
3 x fail to comply with order to assist officer, contrary to Section 201a(3) of the Customs Act 1901.
Acting ABF Commander Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Tim Pieper, said that the ABF is alert to the most sophisticated concealment methods.

“Our highly skilled officers use intelligence, enhanced technology and continuously evolving search techniques to stop prohibited substances reaching the Australian community,” A/g Commander Pieper said.

“Attempting to import drugs or precursors into Australia is a serious crime, and if convicted you could go to jail.”

Ephedrine is used as a precursor agent in the manufacture of illegal amphetamine substances, such as ice.

The man is scheduled to appear before Burwood Local Court today.

NZ Police seize millions worth of cocaine inside horse head

Christchurch: A multimillion-dollar shipment of cocaine - smuggled to New Zealand inside a diamante-encrusted horse sculpture - may have been destined in part for Christchurch, where the rebuild after the devastating 2011 earthquake appears to be fuelling a demand for hard drugs.

The record 35 kilogram seizure, with an estimated $NZ14 million ($13.5 million) street value, was air freighted from Mexico to Auckland International Airport where it was discovered by authorities in May.

Police and Customs revealed the haul of high-grade cocaine after a six-week covert investigation, which used various surveillance techniques, came to a head on Friday.
