MDMA Causing Social Anxiety

I posted something here a few months back similar with no reply, but since then I feel whatever problem I have has worsened. So in short, basically last year at the start I tried MDMA for my first time and loved it and the feeling, throughout the year I probably did it 9-10 times, but this was mainly near the end of the year when I started uni, in which I probably did it 4-5 times, 3 of this was in the space of two weeks. Now going into the new year I have slowly developed pretty bad social anxiety and have all the symptoms, I now dread going to seminars because I basically fear that I might go red if someone talks to me, and just have a really low opinion of the way I socialise now, even though before this has never really been an issue. I feel it is getting worse to the point where I fear places i'll talk to people I don't know that well about a week before, even though I know its irrational but can't stop the thinking and it is causing me to get really down and I fear it may lead to depression, which I have had previously when I was 15.

During my MDMA taking a had a bad experience where I thought making tea and coffee for my mates would be the best loving thing, except having 9 hot drinks in your face is not a smart thing, and I had what I believe was a heated episode, and before this I was in a house in a hoodie and jacket and my friend pointed out how hot I was. I believe this could be related to the anxiety as since then I seem to have this fear of overheating, even though it is such a rare thing to happen. The fear includes thinking about it at night at sometimes, and even dreams, such as the other night where I dreamt I was doing MDMA in my lounge and was sweating really badly.

I am writing this post just to see what I can do to help this anxiety as its becoming all I can think about and making me less social, even though I am not that type of person at all. I am also doing it to see if people have had similar problems, and what they did, as I don't want this to get worse. In order to help I am not taking MDMA for a while, and have also decided to stop smoking weed.

I haven''t written this for sympathy, this is my fault, I just want to get some help, but have no idea where to look for it. Taken me time to think about making this post, so I am hoping someone will have some sort of answer, of whether it is just a waiting game to wait for the long term affects to go, or if I need to see a doctor or something. Happy to answer any questions to help get to the cause or whatever, but before I end this, if you do MDMA just be careful because it can mentally fuck you as I have seen, cheers.

MDMA comedowns tends to cause anxiety and people who haven’t suffered from it before might start to overthink that in a way in which it becomes a vicious cycle of BP going up and then noticing it by feeling it due palpitations or getting hot or just blushing.

You feel anxious and then you start to wonder if those symptoms are something worse.

Go get ECG and have a Dr see it for heart problems and as none can be seen start talking about your anxiety and if he or she can give aomething to help with that issue.

Also don’t blame yourself for what happened as it won’t lead into nothing but instead try to accept that you might go red if you have anxiety. It is hard but Mindfulness might help you as could some other therapies.

Thanks for the reply dude. I haven't taken MDMA for nearly 2months now, so could it still be related to a come down, or is this just related to a longer lasting effect? I will make an appointment in 2 weeks and see if not smoking weed has helped, but I do believe it is related more to a mental anxiety issue than a heart issue, due to the symptoms I am having.

I will to do some mind activities, see if it helps, just have got to a point where I am pretty desperate as I can feel my self getting worse. Cheers again for the advice!

Glad That I could help.

Not long ago there was a thread about similar situation except the OP of that thread was more concerned about feeling his pulse instead of blushing and this kind of issues are actually quite common since you hear a lot about it on the rave scene atleast here and the situations are always quite similar.

Either a new user gets those reactions immediately after the first comedown or after a binge and continues to have them for weeks or even longer and consideres to have a real heart problem because MDMA usage or thinks that the brain has been cooked or something similar.

When you first start to feel anxious you notice the symptoms associated with it and think you are in danger. The first time I had an panic attack I thought I was going to die to a cardiac arrest and panicked even more which lead me to call for help.

When you notice the symptoms the anxiety goes even higher and gives more symptoms and then the anxiety goes over the rooftop and you get even more severe symptoms and so on. It is a vicious cycle and there isn’t much to do except for taking something for the worst symptoms such as clonidine or similar (of course prescribed by a Dr.) or even a benzo if it is real severe but in the long term you just need to overcome the anxiety and there are plenty of therapies and means available for that and it is up to individual and his/her Dr. to choose from those.

First thing to do is to get your heart checked up as it gives you confidence that you don’t have a life threatening situation in your hand and are dealing just anxiety (which may or may not have been caused by MDMA comedown).

I have no doubts you couldn’t deal with it. Stay strong and you will overcome it.

Guess i'll just have to try ignore it and stop focusing on it, see if it makes it come down a bit, but yeah some good advice i'll take it on board.

In some countries CBD weed (cannabis with 0.2% THC or less) is legal to buy and possess with no need of a licence.

It won't get you high, but it has a moderate calming effect if you are anxious/edgy, but won't have much of an effect if you are ok in my experience. YMMV.

There are also oral preparations, vape juices, concentrates made from this type of cannabis.

I don't know if it may help you but give it a thought.

I'm not in country where its legal, but i'll defo give it thought, see if there is something similar or another way I can get it, thanks.

I wanted to add my own reply but I have to say, the above replies are right on point and there's not much more I can add. Very good replies MrRoot and Phobos, thank you

They have been very helpful, only thing I want to get more understanding of is the bad dreams I have had related to MDMA, just wanna know if this is related to a fear of the heat or something else, hope someone has some sort of answer. But again thanks again to all who have replied, it has been very useful to me.

Also trying to find people who have had any similar experiences to what is happening to me, and how they have dealt with it.

MDMA can alter certain hormones like Testosterone/DHT and Cortisol and Oxytocin via its action on neurotransmitters. It should return to normal with time but low T type stuff can definitely cause social anxiety. Especially if thats your only symptom after all of that then definitely get this checked. Its good that it isn't much else since it could be a lot worse.

I didn't have SA that bad but definitely there was Social Awkwardness as a result of overall anxiety, which calmed down and then socially I perceived myself as normal

Cheers for the reply, hopefully like you then it all just calms down, and like I said i'm gonna give the drugs a break for a bit, and hopefully that should just bring it all back down and clear my head a bit.
