MDA and MDMA Is there a difference?

I did MDA way back in the 70's and was wondering if MDMA ,ecstasy was the same drug? What I can remember is it felt real good and dilated my pupils like LSD. It wasn't like tripping but I sure felt fine but didn't feel like saying too much and letting the teachers know I was high.. Because the first time I did it was in school 11th grade I think..A guy sold me one in the morning and said go ahead eat it .It's not like acid,its mellow. I was lucky the teacher didn't call on me,I probably would have told her "leave me alone,I'm thinking about getting laid tonight" or something and would have got wacked (paddled). Now that would be a rush!!lol
