Lethal dose of cocaine

ok I'm going to tell you all why I don't use coke anymore...

I only used for about 2 to 3 years off and on occasionaly for fun with friends until it got bad at one point which wasn't even too bad but about 3 to 4 times a week, more or less.

Anywho... in those 2 to 3 years I have seen two people OD on coke. One had to go to the hospital and one didn't. (the one who didn't, didn't "need" to go because I was too coked out to take his ass and had already been through this shit before a few months prior).

So anyway... the first person I saw OD was only 3 lines into the night. Me and two friends went in on an ounce of decent coke from Mexico. I live about 15 mins away. So we start out the night snorting average size lines about a pencil width (the skinny way if you laid a pencil down) wide. And about 3 to 4 inches long.

Anyhow... after his third line, he decides to sniff another two about the same size when everyone is busy talking and he drops on the floor shaking his ass off going into seizures with convulsions and all and he bounces around the floor foaming at the mouth and spitting blood on himself and then just stops moving abrubtly and doesn't move an inch. Starts turning blue etc... we roll him over on his side and start calling 911 and out of nowhere he jumps up, eyes wide open and punches the person trying to tilt his head at the time in the face and runs at lightning speed around the room punching things, knocking shit over, breaking lamps, etc... and then runs room to room doing the same sort of deal. Then he sort of slows down and just stares at everyone, asking what the fuck just happened.

We try to explain he just OD'd on coke and had a seizure but he was all loopy and didn't believe us because he didn't remember any of it. He started taking off his clothes and asking for water (which we gave him) and saying he felt like he was on fire and his heart hurt.

So I drove him to the ER at that point at like 3 am coked out of my head.

I guess they shot him with some sort of downer and released him a little while later.

Next friend....

Same thing happened, only he had been snorting decent lines all day long from around 3pm until about 12am when we met up with him to do some. We were drunk and I was drunk and on mushrooms when I snorted my first line with him and walked away to chat with some people, and bam next thing you know.. he's flopping around on the floor halfway screaming, halfway gagging and holding his chest. His face looked like it hurt more than I can ever imagine, but since I'd seen it before and was now feeling the coke numbing my face and shit, I was cool about and calmed the rest of the room down. I explained what was probably going to happen next (him running around full of adrenaline breaking shit) and we held his ass down while he jerked around and kicked a table over, then tried to jump up and run for it.

He slowly came out of it and didn't remember anything that happened and thought we were lying when we said he took too much and had a seizure. So we gave him some valium and finished off a quarter of coke between three people that all watched what just happend. After that night I'm kinda over coke. I slip up now and then when I'm drunk and do it here and there but I learned from others that it doesn't take much to OD. It might not kill you, but you'll end up with a shirt and floor full of blood and snot and a bunch of broken shit, not to mention a sore heart.

If that ever happens wait it out... if the person stops moving and doesn't come out of it within 10 mins or so.. get them to a hospital.

The doctors told my first friend he had an adema? I think they call it that... when too much blood gets trapped in your brain and it swells up real quick. You go into a seizure and your heart stops while your body recovers. If your heart doesn't start up again within a second or so... you die. Pretty simple. People who OD on coke usually have a seizure first and then die in the middle of it.

Good luck with the coke.

yeah dude you had bad experiences while i have never come close to that, doing 15 good sized lines in a night.
your firne may be prone to seizures which is made even more so with the introduction of coke into his body, thats not everyone though.

"The cardiac effects of cocaine include acute myocardial infarction, ventricular dysrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death (2).

The pharmacological effects of cocaine on the cardiovascular system are varied and dose dependent. At low doses, the sympathomimetic effects of cocaine predominate resulting in tachycardia, vasoconstriction, and hypertension (2). At higher doses, cocaine-related myocardial sodium channel blockade predominates. Cocaine is a potent blocker of fast sodium channels in cardiac myocytes and conduction tissues, which has been postulated to be the mechanism of cocaine-related dysrhythmias, myocardial depression, and sudden death (3-5).

Journal of Toxicology: Clinical Toxicology, Oct 2003 v41 i6 p777(12) "

If an average person without any heart problems snorts several lines of cocaine and then proceeds to have a heart attack, then I think it is safe to say that he died from acute cocaine toxicity, manifested in a fatal heart attack. My point is, the LD50 for cocaine in rats/mice probably included a few rats/mice who died from cocaine-related dysrhythmias, myocardial depression, and sudden death. The scientists probably also didn't say "Hmm...these died of heart attacks and would not have had heart attacks just now if we didn't inject them with cocaine, but we aren't going to use their data to compute the LD50, since what we want is the lethal dose and all..."

And if I have convinced you that cocaine toxicity can be manifested in different ways (i.e. a heart attack), and that there might be a causative relationship between the two, then you might consider some of the reports of life-threatening symptoms in patients undergoing nasal surgery with cocaine used as a local anasthetic. Some of the doses reported were as low as 125mg applied on gauze to the inside of the nose. This is pure cocaine (you will never get coke this pure on the street in the US) but it is not like the patient is snorting a line-the doctor makes a point to minimize the amount of systemic absorption of the drug. Anyways, one patient had a heart attack, one had torsade des pointes (sp?), one had atrial fibrillation, etc, all life-threatening side effects from modest amounts of cocaine. I think that one of the patients died from cardiac arrest, but all of the patients could have died from the above side effects if not for the fact that the surgery was usually aborted and the symptoms promptly treated. And the toxicity mechanism here is cocaine's local anaesthetic effect when absorbed systemically (leading to conduction abnormalities in the heart).

I am not trying to propagandize for the ONDCP, but I think it's folly to say that cocaine didn't cause the death of someone who develops an irregular heartbeat and dies minutes after the coke was applied to their nose.

i dont know where you live, but americans dont exactly take care of theselves properly, i'm sure that didnt help.

Everybody is differnet. I should probly be dead from my nice 5 month coke binge.

If coke can do that to you, you should stay away from all stimulants legal or not:ephedrine, amphetamines(dex/adderral/ritalin), meth, E........

I was just going to ask, or start a new thread about the chances of meth/amphetamines inducing a heart attack or other possible health problems out of smoking meth/amphetamines..., and would it be at all possible to OD on either one? :)
Because when i used to smoke alot of speed earlier this year and last, i could easily smoke a gram in an hour (not bragging, just mentioning so you get an idea :) ), then for a few hours after that feel my heart practically jumping out of my chest (on one occasion at earthcore last year i went to the paramedics because i was really worried, and they took my pulse and said it was fine, but when i would feel my heart through my chest it was beating really fast, but yeah the paramedic lady said i should be fine but just not to have anymore speed/meth for the night), and occasionally during the next few days my heart would get these sudden pains that would really really hurt, then go away after a few seconds... im obviously shit at explaining this, lol, i apologise. I have a fair tolerance i suppose (my definition being that every friday night its usually around half to a gram ill smoke), but sometimes my heart beats very fast and it scares the shit out of me...!

If this should be a seperate thread, or if there is already one answering my question, move it or whatever :)

Sorry to go so far off topic!! ;)

This thread was helpful; I'm headed away on a small vacation next weekend and haven't dipped into yay in over a year. I will definately heed the advice given here. Thanks.
