Leonard Cohen: Canadian singer dead aged 82

Canadian singer, songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen has died aged 82.
The news was announced on his official Facebook page, but no details about the cause of death were given.
"It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away," the statement said.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau led tributes to the singer, who was known for hits including Hallelujah and Dance Me to the End of Love.
"It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of the legendary Leonard Cohen," Mr Trudeau said in a statement.
"He will be fondly remembered for his gruff vocals, his self-deprecating humour and the haunting lyrics that made his songs the perennial favourite of so many generations."

Sad to hear one of my favourite artists has passed away. Left a lot of mighty fine songs behind though. Not heard his last album yet but the title of this track seemed appropriate...

Leonard Cohen - Leaving the Table

He was my first love at age 13, the first time I realized that I could be moved beyond anything else by poetry set to music. I realized when I read this that it has been a relationship of half a century. Will miss his writing and his voice. What an amazing soul.

Sorry, I'm having a cry fest now so here's two more:

Ah Leonard, my teenage comfort blanket, discovered in my step-father's record collection when I was thirteen or fourteen
An 80's Goth falling in love with the sound and words of Leonard, Joan Baez and the Mamas & Papas without even realising before that there was more than The Cure and Siouxsie & Bauhaus

At 16, being chastised publicly by my mother for having had the audacity to attempt suicide
''It's all that Leonard Cohen you've been listening to''
I couldn't communicate then that I'd meant it, she made me want to die and that his songs brought me comfort and relief in a world that didn't care

FOOTNOTE: Hey, I was a Goth, I LOVE life now, I can understand why my Mum was such a 'bitch' then, but Leonard Cohen's songs still bring me comfort more than two decades after I first heard them and although his death was more age-appropriate than that of any of the other publicly talented shockers this year, I still shed a wee tear when I turned on the radio this morning

i dont wanna live in a world where trump is prez either

rip brotha

Good call on the I'm Your Fan record, Ali, it's a ripper.

A great man who will live forever through his work.

Goodbye Leonard! I made this for you, and all who loved you.

Lovely picture Albion. I'd only listened to LC's music over the years and never seen any footage of him until about a year ago when it was a nice surprise that he was so droll and genuinely funny. It made me like him even more

I can't claim to have been a big fan, I was only familiar with his more well-known material. The Future is one of my favourite songs, mind you.

However, I can respect the talent and the influence he's had on music. I didn't realise he was 82.

Much love <3

'the future' is such a great track.

his words are so beautiful.
