Is it really dangerous to mix Kanna with an SSRI?

I've heard it's dangerous to mix Kanna with an SSRI but I am just wondering if it is actually as dangerous as I've heard.

Has anyone here ever done it?

Has anyone ever heard of anyone getting serotonin syndrome from doing it?

Is Kanna actually an SSRI?

Thanks

One of the main alkaloids in kanna, mesembrine, is a mild serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

It's not a strong serotonin releaser and unless you're using kanna in very large amounts it shouldn't cause negative interactions with typical SSRI doses.

Interesting.

I'd thought mixing Kanna with an SSRI would most likely bring on serotonin syndrome.

So do you think it would be safe if I mixed Kanna with my 30mg daily Lexapro??

Or would I be risking serotonin syndrome doing this?

I remember having both Kanna and DXM on a list of things never to mix with my SSRI but is DXM perhaps the much more dangerous of the two prospects?

I would LOVE to go ahead and try Kanna but I want to make sure it's safe first.

It's dose dependent, if you use small amounts as a tonic you're unlikely to run into problems that you can't deal with by just not taking any more.
