Is dubbing of foreign language films ever effective?

If you don't speak the language then the dubbing of foreign language films is more effective than not doing so.

I grew up watching american cinema dubbed in ONE monotonous male voice - the same voice for every single character in every single film. So any modern day dubbing, no matter how bad, is bearable in my book. Having said that, I'd rather have the original any day. I haven't watched that many foreigns of late. The last was Paradise Now in the original Palestinian dialect of Arabic. I love Brazilian film, so if anyone has any recommendations, please... (in a different thread perhaps)

To sum up... dubbing, in my opinion, is effective. I do believe though, that both versions should be presented on a DVD, simultaneously - dubbed and undubbed. The viewer should have the final choice.
