I am kind of a satyr. I confess to my SO whenever I have a strong hunch that my infidelity isn't inconspicuous. I
think I confess to being a cheat, simply because it is better to broach the truth rather than have someone do it before you do, when you aren't exactly comfortable with it. So then, at the slightest implication that I'm cheating, I will confess that I'm really cheating. Then, I will put a highly appealing yet fictitious story together with which to explain away my infidelity or simply to just justify it.
That has been shown to typically work.
