Hashishene, the new terpene found in hashish.

Apparently people doing gas chromatographic analysis of hashish discovered there's an unusual terpene that is a product of the myrcene in cannabis when it's hit with ultraviolet light, presumably as the hash dries in the sun. It's not found in fresh cannabis in large amounts though, presumably because the myrcene in the live plant tissues is better protected from UV radiation

Maybe this explains why hash has a very unique and yet "consistent" smell... good hash no matter the origin always has a certain aroma to it that plants lack, I've alays thought.

If it's anything like other terpenes then we can probably expect it's mildly psychoactive and certainly fragrant. I don't think the official paper reports on the odor of the new terpene unfortunately....

wow, that's fascinating.

kinda blows my mind how relatively little is known about cannabis (for a medicinal/psychoactive plant) due to prohibition and restrictions for so long on studying it.

i'd like to think we are entering some kind of Golden Age of scientific and medical discoveries relating to cannabis. does that sound realistic?

interesting stuff for sure, but in my experience, western-produced hash has this certain flavour to it as well that the flowers lack, even though it's not sundried. maybe just breaking up the trichomes and pressing it helps this cyclication?

also what is really known about the psychoactivity and medical properties of terpenes in cannabis?
