Prison for heroin import pair
Guernsey News from ITV Channel Television
Cerejo and Fernandes pleaded guilty...
27-year-old Jose Sebastiao Fernandes and 43-year-old Fernando Moreira Cerejo pleaded guilty to importing heroin and Suboxone tablets - worth up to £4,450.
On October 23rd last year, Guernsey Border Agency officers found 15 wraps of heroin hidden in a chocolate box and 20.5 Suboxone tablets in a plastic bag at the Postal Headquarters.
Cerejo was arrested for sending the packages when he flew into Guernsey on November 13th 2012 to visit Fernandes for one night.
Both admitted their respective roles in arranging for the drugs to be imported into the Island.
In summing up the Deputy Bailiff stated that had the importation been successful they would have added to the stock of controlled drugs in the island and that the good people of Guernsey have 'no wish to foster addicts amongst us'.
He added that the message must be sent loudly to other people thinking about importing drugs.
Fernandes, the recipient, was sentenced by the Royal Court to five years for the importation of heroin and one year in prison for the importation of Buprenorphine, to run concurrently.
Cerejo, the sender, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for the importation of heroin and nine months imprisonment to the importation of Buprenorphine - also to run concurrently.
The court has also recommended that both Fernandes and Cerejo be considered for deportation when their sentence is complete.
Law Enforcement are always grateful of any assistance given by members of the public in identifying any persons involved with smuggling or supplying controlled drugs in the Bailiwick; information can be given by contacting the Confidential Drugline on 0800 318 318.

Guernsey living up to their reputation for draconian sentences again. Poor guys, was probably for personal use going by Guernsey prices which are up to 10x mainland UK prices.
