Opioids Got moved from Vicodin to tramadol will it work?

Thats absolutly fascinating.

I wouldn't have thought about a stimulant effect.

The antidepressant effect is understandable considering the serotonin release though...

Tramadol works on norepinephrine too. I think that's the cause of the stimulant effect but I get a stimulant effect from buprenorphine (with no known norepinephrine effect to my knowledge). I’ve heard that buprenorphine belongs to a “stimulating” opioid family – maybe tramadol works similarly.

The only reason your doc would move you to tramadol from vicodin is if he suspects you of abuse.

Agreed. He knows if you show up in the emergency room with a grand mal seizure then you're at the abuse level with tramadol. The medical community has nice ways of suppressing abuse. That APAP would have slowly killed your liver anyhow. Another nice way of suppressing abuse.

you got moved to tramadol because your the type of person that snorts vicodin.

yea your doctor knows 5mg oxycodone has much more analgesic effects than 100mg tramadol and is trying to wean u off opiates or at least schedule 2 opiates.....anyway i feel like i need to throw my two cents out on tramadol here.....when i first started doing opiates 200mg tramadol was AWESOME i did nod very hard of it and it was euphoric and warm. after i abused opiates for a while tramadol is like a sugar pill...but when your a begginer for some people tramadol can be awesome.

Even after years of opiate experience, I find tramadol adds a nice edge to an opiate high. On it's own it doesn't do much, but along with a nice dose of your favorite opiate it adds some stimulant effect and bit more euphoria.

Try it out and see. Tramadol is a opiate prodrug, meaning your body must metabolize it to become active. It is very weak IMO.

Whatever you do, dont exceed 400mg. Seizures tend to come at doses higher than that.

Tram was useful for me helping me get to sleep if I had a hard night of tossing and turning and constantly thinking of copping something. Some piece of mind most def.

A friend was prescribed Tramadol for minor surgery. Must have had one of those anti-opiate doctors. My g/f had a doc like that once. What a dick!!

Anyway, the d00d gave me a couple Tramadols. Minor buzz, nothing to write home about!!

In Canada, doctors are terrified of prescribing opiates. Half of it is for good reason - they can easily lead to life-destroying addiction - but the other half if just plain fear, the typical Canadian fear of confrontation and directness of any kind. So even getting prescribed Tramacet can be tricky. :\ lame. That's socialised healthcare for you though.

Don't wanna treat people for their addiction to pain treatments, LOL. in a "public" system, they're more inclined to just leave you on your ass to deal with shit yourself instead of sucking you into this endless loop of pharms and surgeries, which they do in the US explicitly to make money..,

of course tramadol and codeine and such are nothing when you've done H or dilly or oxy before...but they still get you high, albeit in a teasing sort of fashion...

I'm being prescribed tramadol for pain, and although it helps immensely for pain (AND depression - who'da figured???) , I find the jittery side-effects of it much more prominent than the side effects of traditional opiates. I don't see why tram is unscheduled, while even small amounts of codeine, in Canada at least, are fucking Schedule 1 (narcotic class!). Doesn't make a lick of sense. Hopefuly some doctor will see the light of reason and give me an equally or perhaps even more effective analgesic (not an NSAID, since stomach and intestinal diseases run in my family, for fucks sake) like hydrocodone or - dare I hope - oxycodone.

another good thing about low-class drugs like benzos, tramadol and ADD speed drugs...why go hunting for street drugs like some bounty hunter from Hell when you can buzz, cheaply (in Canada and other socialised health care places), off of the legal medical system itself

I wouldnt be surprised if you are in withdrawals tryin to stay well with tramadol for that hyrdro habit

subjective is exactly right...I'm a daily user of tramadol (I keep it to the recommended 400mg) and it does the trick for me. It provides a very mild high and just enough euphoria to make me look forward to my 4pm dosing every day. Also, IT LASTS! I'm good for the whole night. BUT, from what Ive read on these boards, tramadol is not for everyone...seems to work on about 1/3 of the folks who take it. (and by "work" I mean provide a pleasing high for those of us who are regulars...) As far as WD goes...I've gone off it once so far and it wasn't too bad...not enjoyable by any means, but I made it thru while going to work everyday. The biggest warning given is the possibility of seizures, both while using and WD'ing. I've read various reports and most of them seem to imply that seizures come with combinations of different medicines with the tramadol. BUT, don't take my word on that one...there are folks here that can give you very detailed explanations on that. Good luck.

I had a hydro habit of 150 to 200 mg's a day and tramadol let me stop that one day and the next day I started tramadol, and never missed a beat. In fact I much preferred tramadol over hydrocodone.

I have a rod in my leg from my knee all the way down to my foot. I only take the vicodin about 1 to 2 times a week. I guess if it sucks I will just call the doctor and tell him it sucks and is not working. From what I hear you cant sleep on it, so I will also use insomnia as an excuse.

Thanks

This is an interesting point. I take tramadol for pain after a car accident nearly 13 years ago and the last couple of doctors i've seen are blown away by the fact tramadol keeps me awake and results in a speedy type of feeling where I can't get deep sleep and wake up tired as fuck. They claim they haven't seen anyone who reacts the same way as me.

Tramadol has been brilliant for my pain, I only use 100mg per dose, slow release. I've never had Vicodin before so i'm not sure what the effect feels like, but if its anything like some of the other opiate pain meds i've had, tramadol definately has less of an effect. It's just the only drug I can take that works for my pain and doesn't make me nauseous
