GHB reagent?

Ive never heard of anyone trying to test it with the standard home kits so I really dont know. You could ask this question over in the basic drug discussion section as somebody may know how to test it :)

GHB will turn red-brown under the Ferric Chloride test, but this can be variable at different pH's and the reaction is more finicky with certain solvents (like H2O). I have elsewhere read that a 1% cobalt nitrate solution will turn GHB a pink to violet color.

The most common test, however, is the Smith Test, a mix of Bromocresol Green and Methyl Orange in a 1:1 ratio which is mixed with a modified Schweppes Reagent in a 3:1 ratio. It took a while to find info on this one, but it seems that all GHB's four salts will change the solution from a deep orange to a dark green. Furthermore, this same reagent will turn yellow-orange in the presence of GBL, but will remain a darkening pinkish orange if results are negative.

There are also straws and glasses that were recently invented to detect GHB (an Indiegogo project), possibly using the Chlorophenol Red/modified Schweppes Reagent which turns red in the presence of GHB and should also turn yellow when exposed to GBL. It may also be worth noting that Zimmermann’s reagent and platinum iodide have been mentioned in patents and discussions concerning the development of rapid field tests for GHB, I just haven't found much on these as the details are likely to be proprietary. Although on second thought, these may be for the purpose of identifying Rohypnol or other benzodiazepines.
