Five dead at Argentina music festival took 'toxic' drugs

"Toxic" drugs killed five young partygoers at a dance music festival in Argentina, authorities and experts said Sunday.

Aged between 21 and 25, they died after attending the Time Warp electronic music festival in Buenos Aires on Friday night into Saturday, the state news agency Telam said, citing judicial sources.

Four other people were hospitalized in critical condition and the condition of a fifth had improved, the city health department said in a statement.

Security Minister Patricia Bullrich said it was thought they had taken a recreational drug spiked with a deadly substance.

"Clearly someone had put some kind of toxic poison in the drug because these young people's deaths resembled what happens when someone takes poison," she said on television.

Authorities did not immediately indicate if the drugs were purposely laced to cause damage.

The head of the Buenos Aires emergency medical service, Alberto Crescenti, said the victims suffered convulsions and high fever.

Toxicologist Marti Braschi said the victims were suspected to have taken a designer drug called "Superman," a mix of ecstasy and methamphetamine.

High dose of PMA mixed with other active ingredients?

PMA Overdose[edit]
PMA overdose can be a serious medical emergency that may occur at only slightly above the usual recreational dose range, especially if PMA is mixed with other stimulant drugs such as cocaine or MDMA. Characteristic symptoms are pronounced hyperthermia, tachycardia, and hypertension, along with agitation, confusion, and convulsions. PMA overdose also tends to cause hypoglycaemia and hyperkalaemia, which can help to distinguish it from MDMA overdose. Complications can sometimes include more serious symptoms such as rhabdomyolysis and cerebral hemorrhage, requiring emergency surgery. There is no specific antidote, so treatment is symptomatic, and usually includes both external cooling, and internal cooling via IV infusion of cooled saline. Benzodiazepines are used initially to control convulsions, with stronger anticonvulsants such as phenytoin or thiopental used if convulsions continue. Blood pressure can be lowered either with a combination of alpha blockers and beta blockers (or a mixed alpha/beta blocker), or with other drugs such as nifedipine or nitroprusside. Serotonin antagonists and dantrolene may be used as required. Despite the seriousness of the condition, the majority of patients survive if treatment is given in time, however, patients with a core body temperature over 40°C at presentation tend to have a poor prognosis.[17]

Our security minister Patricia Bullrich is now trying to pass an Analogue act through the congress to criminalize each and everyone carrying everything that could be considered a drug or a precursor to one. This is going to get a lot more people killed, I'm certain.
And yeah, it was probably a PMA laced pill that was sold inside the venue. Several others bought supermans before and had no health issues.
