films: Most important element of a movie

First of all, the movie has to deliver what it is intended to ....if it is a comedy, it has to make me laugh , and if it is a horror film it has to scare the bejesus out of me.
The main story, well told and expressed through a coherent script is very important.....the story doesnt even have to be necessarily beautiful or heroic or earth shattering....but if it is able to pull me in and affect me profoundly in whatever vicarious way it does...then that is a good movie.

Everything else comes full circle neatly when there is a solid story...the cinematography, the shots, the acting, everything. Of course an alternative to a good story is interesting camerawork ....but no matter how visually arresting a movie is (and there are many that thrive on just that!) the movies that have stuck in my memory for a long time have solid storytelling skills behind it all.

i have to be moved in all aspects....and thats not an easy feat :)
