After my brother lent me his Akira DVD last month, (nice but i got a huge headache after watchin it lol) , he told me that i would probably like Spirited Away much more. Im gonna watch it later! WoOt!

<-- sign of a healthy thread ;)

I loved this film, but couldn't quite get why people thought it was better than mononoke. I didn't think that it had that depth of feeling and profoundness that mononoke seems to effortlessly provide.

I find the story more childlike and fun than mononoke... Not that it's not got a seroius under-current, it's just presented in a less serious manner.... It makes me smile more than mononoke- by far!

*LOVE* the icon! /\

Spirited Away

It's a good movie, dig?
Also check out other movies by Miyazaki, I really like his style.
Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service are cool as well.

You can get some info on it here...

Don't let the assosication with Disney put you off (if it does somehow). An awesome movie to watch sober or on any number of substances. Beautiful animation, some of the coolest characters conceived, a pretty wild plot, and lots of ... miscellaneous stuff cool for multiple reasons.

Any other Miyazaki fans out there?

I loved this movie to death. I saw it in the theatres about a year ago. I also loved Princess Mononoke as well. Such beautiful films, very artistic and original, even for Anime.

merged "Spirited Away". please search before starting a new thread. thanks.

Miyazaki's finest work to date in my opinion.

I watched this with my younger brother & we sat like two small children utterly enraptured by the magic of what we were seeing for the duration of the whole film.

And that encapsulates why this film is so incredible to me..........I simply cannot recall any other time since my childhood when I felt so strongly as if I was just that : a child.
Its ability to evoke those feelings of wide-eyed wonder & innocence that you only experienced on a daily basis when very young (& before some of the harsh realities of this world crept up & exposed their menacing eyes) is staggering.

It's just the sheer unbridled imagination of the world created by Miyazaki & his team, and the characters that inhabit it, that gets to me. It's truly unique & deserves to go down in cinematic history alongside films such as E.T. & The Wizard Of Oz as timeless pieces of fantasy that every child (& adult) should see.

I remember when it ended & that song started playing over the credits, the sheer beauty of what I'd just seen hit me like a tonne of bricks & I had to stifle a massive lump in my throat - I looked over at my little bro & could see that he was doing the same. I can't imagine any other situation in which that would happen.

As you can tell I absolutely love this film & could write a 5000 word eulogy on it with few difficulties.

That Spirited Away is the most successful film of all time in Japan in comparison to Titanic in the UK (& I assume the States) speaks volumes to me..........

I've already written basically the same thing several times, but I'll do it again: this is a magnificent film. It toes the line of so many genres--fantasy, horror, romance, surrealism--with total aplomb, and consummate style. It's arguably the best children's animated movie I've seen, and for me that's saying a lot.

excellent movie! kept me interested till the end, a must for any anime fan

some glimpses from recent miyazaki shorts

Thanks. The caption said these clips are from the Studio Ghibli Museum, so I'm guessing they can't be too recent. If you know better say so. I really want Miyazaki to come out of retirement to do one more of his own stories. There's noone alive today with work on par with what that man has done; I don't think Walt Disney qualifies either.

really liked it- have even watched it in itd dubbed state (which i usually pass on) and still enjoyed it- the voice acting was actually good - or to put it another way the film is good enough to overcome the shame of being dubbed
