I thought this film was awesome. Better than Magnolia, even. Subtle, beautifully scripted and very affecting
Pretty Much anything with Philip seymour Hoffman in it is gold. Compare his role in this one too 25th Hour or Happiness to get an idea of his range.

And Adam Sandler, who I usually find grating impressed me too. Its basically the same doleful loser type he always plays, but played straight this time. Not completely for laughs, which makes sense really. His character always seemed pretty tragic to me.

i left after 40min
i didn't leave earlier cause i was hoping something would turn out good in the movie
but i was eventually very pissed i didn't leave before.

I almost hate to say this but if you didn't like it BA, then I might have to go out and rent this. ;)

I rented the 2002 remake of Solaris over this title the last time I was in the store.

Excellent film. Yeah - it's odd, different, non-formulaic, does things you don't expect, throws in things that seem to have no meaning. Kinda like life.

Made me laugh, kept me interested, and I thought the love story was touching.

How can anyone think this movie lacked character development? Anderson's movies are all tremendously character driven, and Punch Drunk Love is no exception. The character of Barry was an amazing psychological study with many, many layers. Sandler did an amazing job with it. It can't be easy to get into such a deep deep persona, but I can't imagine anyone else playing that role.

Yeah, I liked it. I'll have to watch it one or two more times before I can really go into depth.

Adios,
Steve

^ I agree...I thought the characters were awesome.
I thought this movie was awesome. It appears this is another one of those movies people seem to either LOVE or HATE.
This movie was freaking amazing. I sat there in awe the entire time. I thought it was so darkly funny and fascinating.

My favorite part: BARRY, talking to his girlfriend in bed-"Your face is so beautiful..I just wanna SMASH it with a sledge hammer."

LOL

And the part where Barry beats the fuck out of the three blonde guys after they crash into his car on purpose..fucking righteous!

YAY for Punch Drunk Love.

:)

i think its a masterpiece, anyone else notice the radiohead references? "punchdrunk lovesick" is the name of a radiohead song, and the supermarket scenes are very reminiscent of the "fake plastic trees" video, PT Anderson , readily admits to the fact he was listening to a lot of radiohead when he was writing the movie

TYPO...the radiohead song was "punchdrunk lovesick singalong" ...hence my post....

Once again I must use the Troll 2 defense...never, ever say a movie is the worst ever in any way until you've seen Troll 2. Only then you will understand...

So because it was hard to understand, it sucked. I love the logic.

I loved it...absolutely and completely.

Difficult movie, but it's just about odd love between odd people who have flaws. The scenes where he tried to play off how badly he wants the girl, esp when he calls her up and says he's on a business trip in the same place as her, are funny. Very funny, but not gut bustingly so. An odd, pitying, dark funny.

It was a touching movie that was messy because of its realism. I know people like that; hell, at times I AM/have been like that.

Characters were mysterious yet well developed, definetly developed viewer empathy with its depth.

How is Punch Drunk Love hard to understand, anyway? The plot is extremely simple, and that was the point of it, I think..

I liked it. I got bored and decided to watch it - nothing incredible but I wanted to keep watching to see what happened. Nice to see something different for a change.

I don't what to think about this movie.. on one hand i think it's genious.. or the other .. total crap..

im am so confused about this movie! well thats probably because i fall asleep about 12 minutes and 32 seconds after it starts. Ive attempted to watch it thrice on vcd....but i just never stay up long enough to get it.
