featuring Colin Ferrel and (guh!) Jamie Foxx....

Jamie Foxx turns my stomach more than
Will Smith.

Things look just as bad especially since supposedly
the script couldn't decide whether or not it was a
comedy or serious drama.

currently filming but not due until 2006.

actually, this is probably going to be great.

michael mann (thief, manhunter, the insider, ali, last of the mohicans, heat, collateral) is directing it and he is probably one of the top five american directors right now.

he created the original tv show.

but the thing is, jamie foxx can be a good 'serious' actor when the roll calls for it, and will smith cannot.

yeah if you have seen Ray, and think jamie foxx isn't a good actor, watch that movie again.

Sounds good to me, I loved miami vice and jamie foxx is a great actor. Ray was his major break (and what a movie to make your break! damn...) and has had other interesting rolls in his history as well. The only thing worse then a music snob is a MOVIE snob. I swear to GOD there is nothing more agitating to me then trying to watch and enjoy a movie while the people around you talk shit about it....

It might even turn out to be bad, but I still want to watch it and have an unbiased review.

When I think of Miami Vice, I think of that god awful 1980s television show with Don Johnson and that other guy. Well, fast forward two decades and now we have Collin Farrell and Jamie Foxx starring in a movie directed by Michael Mann (Heat and Collateral). If the movie is in the same league as Heat or Collateral it will probably be good. If it's in the same league as the TV show, then it will probably suck. Anyhow, here's a link to the trailer...

cute trailer. seems to keep the feel of the original. well, what else could we expect from the co-creator of the original?
thanks for the link

it's hard to believe that Mann was a part of the original, given the difference in quality between the old show and his movies. the trailer has a nice look, even if the music is cheesy. it appears he's using the digital cameras again, which worked well in Collateral, imo.

This movie's going to be great. Michael Mann is one of the top five American directors currently making movies.

^
i agree. the director commentaries on his DVD releases are the best. there is so much purpose and thought put into everything he shoots. he's also willing to take risks on things like modern music soundtracks and using the digital cams.

The show was likely cheesy due to its run smack in the middle of the 80s, the decade of cheese.

It's too bad they didn't keep the 80's flavor, Miami Vice ruled! That whole pastel technicolor would have been so unqiue and fun in a movie, it's too bad they had to change it. Also - to anyone who says Miami Vice sucks, get bent.

P.S. - This movie is not set in the 80's.

Ill go see this after Starksky and Hutch, The Dukes of Hazard, and the unknown Three's Company remake.

Miami Vice may have or may not have sucked, but almost every movie made from a tv show has. With the exception of The Fugitive and The Brady Bunch movies,of course.

^^^

You need to pay attention to what's important. Think! The director---it's always about the director.

there are some god damn gorgeous shots in that trailer. backgrounds (skys, clouds, horizons, through windows) are all beautifully framed.

Agreed. It would have been nice for the movie to recreated that era, but it would have probably come across as contrived. In another medium completely, GTA Vice City came the closest to recreating that era and artistic influences.
