FILM: irreversible

i just rented irreversible the other night and thought it was great. its told in a backwards fashion like memento, but i did not find it as hard to follow. i really liked how as the movie progressed my opinion of the characters changed because i got to know more about their situations. anyone else have opinions on this movie?

***possible spoiler below***

i think the rape scene was rather graphic, but not as horrible as some have made it out to be. i am wondering what other BL's thought about it?

I really enjoyed this movie as well. Being that it was one of my birthday presents, I've watched it many times. The backwards order worked very well with this film.. although I was skeptical at first.

***spoiler***

I thought the rape scen was VERY graphic; mostly because the filmmakers did such a great job of making it seem real. What bothered me more, though, was the first scene.. watching the face being beat in. Since that scene is so hurried and crazy I was a little confused wether they actually got the Tenia or not? I didn't think that was him.. but I may be wrong.

I saw the movie a few weeks ago, I loved the ending, you go through this whole long journey to get there.

I thought the rape scene was very graphic, and very hard to watch. I almost skip through the scene.(i saw it on dvd)

Why should anyone watch that rape or beating scene?
Really, it's so fucked up that it doesn't even have a point.
The whole movie has no point.

The whole movie has no point.

^^^ The whole point was that because of that one monement, her friend who truly loved her, will wind up going to jail, and shen will never have a chance to live that perfect dream that was at the end of the movie. it was all erased, spun away..

Film: IRREVERSIBLE (probably will contain spoilers)

Now I don't want to open the pandora's box regarding shock value, ie. the use of extreme graphic violence and sex in films, but rather ask people if they regret seeing this film.

After the first disorientating scene and the 'other' scene about half way through I was seriously ready to bash my mate who invited us all to its screening.

However after the end, and some discussion amongst friends to calm down a bit, I ultimately did not regret seeing the film.

It's a very close call in my mind because there is no real message, or at least no positive idea which one can take from Irreversible, yet I feel in an odd way I have seen something which was artistic, and unique in its own way.

The tag line, 'time destroys all things', in its most pessimistic interpretation seems fitting. far more fitting than 'time heals all wounds', as it's seriously impossible for anything positive to come from the events depicted. the more I think about the reality of the story told, I the more I hope it doesn't happen to anyone I know.

Please, those who have seen Irreversible, your thoughts..

my first thought is that you should search before starting a thread. :)

Maybe the film wasn't about positive ideas. I think "time destroys all things" was a very fitting theme for this film. But I guess if you're hung up on getting a positive message out of things, I did find that he exposed the whole "take care of one another" message throughout the events.

Call me crazy but did anyone else tie the first scene where the old man (director) talks about fucking his daughter to the rape? I thought it was ironic that the tenia later said "do you like to get fucked by your daddy?" Seems like a stretch, but this is what I got.

Good movie, but I found the revenge scene right at the start the most brutal. For those that don't know, this movie goes backwards like Memento.

Apparently this is the most walked out movie of last year. Also the apparent reason for the walk out was not just the brutality, but there's a constant low hum through the first 20 mins of the movie which is of a frequency known to cause vertigo and possibly nausea. I personally didn't notice it, but it may have been removed by the time this movie reached australia. I saw 4 people walk out. One imparticular girl walked out at the end of the rape scene and yelled something at the audience as she was leaving.

All the violence and brutality is over with pretty early on so it makes the rest of the movie seem rather slow. It's nowhere near as evenly made as Memento.

There are some very effective special effects and camera work that leaves you scratching your head.

I recommend this movie, but i must warn, it is hardcore.

Speaking of warnings, I was warned by the person who sold me the ticket, by the old guy who ripped the ticket and by the person who checked the ticket. They all warned me about the violence and asked if I suffer from epilepsy. With each subsequent warning, my intregue developed into interest and then excitement, cuz I could tell it wasn't a marketing ploy. The cinema didn't want to be sued.

The old fire Extinguisher to the head move

This must be the most realistic death i have seen in a long time. Every blow looks so life like it is scary. The hands of the victem are twitching like those of a squashed bug, even after the last strike the jaw of the mangled head is still trembling. Between the rape scene (best rape scene of all time)the beating, the transexuals, and the steady cam shot (not so steady) in the dungen maze of sexual deviants, where you can here quotes such as "fist my ass, its safer"; This is the most graphic, disturbing and depraved movie of all time. I like a movie that leaves you feeling a little ill, and this film did just that and more.

Absolutely revolting and pointless.

The only strength this movie could gather was from its shock value.

Revolting yes , but how can you say it's pointless. Its a revenge tale, every one like a revenge tale. Even if you take away the films gimmicks ( over the top violence + shown in reverse) its all about getting even.

i'm inclined to agree with beatlebot. i felt this movie tried to create impact with the violence and little else. take that away and what are you left with?

Movie: Irreversible

Has anyone seen this flick? One of the most disturbing and fucked-up, sexually twisted movies I've seen in a while.

yes, funnily enough: a whole bunch of people. *please* do a search before you post a new thread... :)

hey sorry I did a search and came up with nothing...maybe I spelled it wrong :)
