I thought Ichi the Killer was absolutely fantastic. It was very well put together. The music was very fitting.. Very sick, one of the most sadistic movies I've seen. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who can stomach films like this.

Has anyone here seen Audition, Visitor Q, or Gozu?

I saw this a year ago and think that it was over hyped. To me it feels like a glorified B movie. The acting is ok but I expected more violence/gore. I thought Kakihara's (sp?) character outshined Ichi easily. The whole concept of a masochist needing to save the only person who can torture him the way he likes to be tortured was pretty original.

I think Miike's best work is the first 5 minutes of Dead or Alive, that song is great.

I've seen Visitor Q and I loved it. Is it the same director?

I just saw this a couple days ago and fucking LOVED IT. Like watching a train wreck, disgusting and in bad taste but you cannot avert your eyes. Interesting characters, awesome cinematography and an all around insane film. You summed it up quite well with "Ichi the Killer is one of the most disgusting, horrific, depraved films that I've ever had the pleasure to watch."

anybody seen the prequel to this? have it somewhere that i dowmloaded but not watched it so far. his yaukza films are well worth seeing also. sick man indeed.

It's based on a manga, so the prequel wouldn't really be canonical. I've read the entire manga but I can't find the last fucking issue :(

I loved this movie.

It was so wildly depraved and violent, it made me burst out laughing repeatedly.
It was also oddly arousing.

I'm a sick fuck.
:)

After seeing Hostel this past weekend, I'm suddenly thirsty for more shock/horror/gore flicks, and since this is my all-time favorite, I thought I'd give it a nice bump and add a couple (slightly graphic) trailers for this film.

Yep, Takashi Miike. I've since seen Audition & Visitor Q, but I've got several of his other films at home that I still need to sit down and watch. Audition was too slow for my liking (might as well just fast-forward to the end for the only gore scene in the movie), and Visitor Q was just plain fucking weird, though intriguing. I can't wait to see Gozu & Izo! :)

What are his yakuza films titled ? I'm -alllll- about asian mafia.

Ichi the Killer?

Anybody has seen this movie? I loved it. It was gorey and violent as fuck, while being very funny to me. Ichi crying and shit and slashing people up. SOme of the scenes were edited in a EErie way that i like. I strongly reccomand it if youre not scared off a little blood. Anymore movies like this i should see anyone knows about?

Battle Royale, my friend, Battle Royale. =D It is a true Gem of cinema and pure japanese awesomeness. And its fucked up, too, of course.

One of my favorite flicks for sure.

I think what you're after are movies by the same director that share some of the same themes. " The director is Takashi Miike, and, of the films of his I've seen (10, I think) "Dead or Alive" is closest.

im definitly giving Dead or alive and Battle royale a watch. Thanks for the suggestions !!

The Holy Mountain has got to be an acquired taste. I don't know what to make of that trailer.

The holy mountain all comes together in the end. It's my top film of all time & I can't stand art house films.

Give it a try, you won't be sorry.

Takashi Miike aint all that IMO & i'm some kinda "Otaku" on Japanese cinema.

Want to see something good check Shinya Tsukamoto Tetsuo or Alejandro Jodorowsky The holy mountian

Whatever your opinion of Miike is, neither "Tetsuo" nor "The Holy Mountain" are similar to "Ichi the Killer," and the latter isn't even Japanese, so I'm sort of perplexed by your post. Bringing up "The Holy Mountain" here strikes me as kind of like going into a thread about "The Little Mermaid" and posting "Ron Clements' take on this classic tale is rather pedestrian in my opinion. Rather, check out 'Cannibal Holocaust.'"
