Has anyone seen the trailer for this movie yet. i believe it comes out next month it stars keanu reeves. kinda looks like a mix of matrix and hellboy i think it might be worth a matinee.

Yes, I've been waiting for it. Definitely want to see it or rent it.

I was just about to start a thread about this movie.....

It looks really good......Although Reeves is not that great of an actor......He still plays the action lead well in most of those kind of movies

From the previews it looks incredible. I can't wait to see it.

Keanu isn't the best actor but he really works well in scifi/fantasy movies.

A friend of mine is obsessed with Keanu Reeves ever since the matrix movies, he's trying to tell me that Constantine is going to be just like that matrix. I don't really see the connection and I don't share his fondness for Reeves, I think he's become a better actor than he used to be (can we say Bill and Ted?) But he's still not that great. Though he does fill certain roles very well, and I think Constantine might be one of them. I'll definetley see the movie though, the plot looks great

It will be "just like" the matrix in that it's a scifi/action romp staring Keanu. Similar themes. Hopefully, this project turns out better than the other 2 matrix movies which were teh epitomy of mediocre (at their best).

I'm looking forward too it. I'm not a huge Keanu fan, but if dark and dry is the character, Keanu fits.

I'll admit, I'm a sucker for a Good vs. Evil themed movie. Especially w/ some Catholic mythology thrown into it.

If you're interested in Constantine, you might also like The Order, already out on DvD...

film: constantine

vote now :)

(except don't, 'cause it's not out. but ya know what i mean.)

Was I the only one who thought this was about the historical Constantine when I first saw the title? :p

^
No. That was my first impression too. But apparently it's based off a comic book called 'Hellblazer'.

The real synopsis of the movie:
John Constantine has been to hell and back.

Born with a gift he didn’t want, the ability to clearly recognize the half-breed angels and demons that walk the earth in human skin, Constantine (KEANU REEVES) was driven to take his own life to escape the tormenting clarity of his vision. But he failed. Resuscitated against his will, he found himself cast back into the land of the living. Now, marked as an attempted suicide with a temporary lease on life, he patrols the earthly border between heaven and hell, hoping in vain to earn his way to salvation by sending the devil’s foot soldiers back to the depths.

But Constantine is no saint. Disillusioned by the world around him and at odds with the one beyond, he’s a hard-drinking, hard-living bitter hero who scorns the very idea of heroism. Constantine will fight to save your soul but he doesn’t want your admiration or your thanks – and certainly not your sympathy.

All he wants is a reprieve.

When a desperate but skeptical police detective (RACHEL WEISZ as Angela Dodson) enlists his help in solving the mysterious death of her beloved twin sister (also played by Weisz), their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldly events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.

Umm....Keanu Reeves as John Constantine?

Oh dear. :(

Saw this movie 2 days ago. I had higher expectations but it was a good enough movie.

I expected more, but it was ok. I like the twist on the existence of earth, heaven and hell. Special effects were great. However, the plot was full of holes... it seems like they left a lot out. Reminded me of another occult movie, The Order (which bombed, big time), but with more magical mythology involved.

I enjoyed a lot of the movie. Of course,I was high as hell and that helped. The special effects were impressive(except for the demon made of beetles, that looked fake as a video game version might look like)the plot was good(left a lot out, like, how John Constantine was able to do most of the shit he did. I guess there's a backstory, but I've never read the comic)but overall I think they pretty much phoned it in after the first hour. The guy playing Satan must have thought he was in a goofy-ass Rob Scneider movie. The lead singer of Bush(Gavin Rosdale)*WTF?! He can stick to making cds that no one buys anymore. He was just distracting, not acting.

I read an article on this movie and they left a lot of shit out. That was my main problem with this movie. It was a good time killer, but not worth a repeat viewing. When I want the dvd to hurry up and come out after seeing a movie a the theater(Kill Bill V1 and 2,Donnie Darko)that means it was a great movie to me. But,I'm just one of 6.5 billion people on the planet,so this could be a great movie to you. It's all perspective. That said, this response was no help. It can only influence opinion. Damn,I'm almost out of weed.:|

wow. I can't believe this is the first most of ya'll have ever heard of John Constantine. he was first introduced in the SWAMP THING comics and later starred in his own comic book HELLBLAZER.

he basically is an occult/magic/voodoo kinda investigator and is a chain-smoking, ass-kicking, bad ass!

... but I still have yet to see the movie

It wasn't as good as I had hoped, but it was enjoyable. I always love movies with an occult subtext.

My favorite part (****slight spoiler*****)

Was when God was taking Constantine up to heaven and as he was floating up he gave the devil the finger. :D

And I wish they had shown more of the character 'Midnight' and what he does. That whole club scene (that he owned) was intriguing.

The actress that played Gabriel did an outstanding job.

Fuck this, i thought it sucked. I was expecting bigger action, a better ending, special effects in fight scenes that don't look like u're playing an Xbox game. I had images of movies like The Prophecy stuck in my head before i went in, but with more action.

The comedy scenes and jokes were pathetic and poorly placed, even if i did laugh as Keanu flipped Lucifer the bird while floating to heaven. It just disrupted the entire aura of the film.

I dunno, i think this film is a failure, for way more reasons than Reeves bad ability to conquer dialogue.

I can't say I was the least bit impressed by this. I'd rather have seen a Devils Advocate II

I saw it the day it came out. Id call it a good movie. I enjoyed it..especially the "hell" scenes.

i'm still deciding how i feel about it. i think i'll have to see it again before i know how much i like it. i think the writers and stuff seemed to have put a lot of thought into it all...but some parts seemed a bit cheesy (unless that was on purpose), but i think thats cuz of keanu.
