film: A Fish Called Wanda

Somehow this movie has escaped my viewing for years. I finally caught it for the first time about a week or so ago, and have since watched it about 3 or 4 times. I haven't laughed out loud to a new movie in awhile, so to say it lived up to my expectations would be a bit of an understatement. I'm happy to say Kevin Kline more then earned his academy award with his performance. John Cleese and Michael Palin were pure love, again not that I expected any less, and Jamie Lee Curtis was lovely. I am actually really excited to watch this many more times, as I keep noticing new stuff with every viewing. I was really surprised not to find a thread for this film, especially with all the Python lovers on bluelight! Discuss!

Unfortunately, I've seen AFCW so many times, I've burnt out on it. It is brilliant the first 1700 viewings or so, though.

Do yourself a favor and skip Fierce Creatures, which has much of the same cast, in different roles. Dreadful.

FC was cute, but nowhere near as funny as wanda. Kline worked his two characters well.

Yeah Fierce Creatures wasn't that bad. If you love A Fish Called Wanda, it's definetly worth checking out, in my opinion.

Incidentally if anyone hasn't seen A Fish Called Wanda, go and rent it out now. It's one of those perfect films that doesn't age but at the same time it's a light mindless comedy.

Kevin Kline won an Oscar for his role in AFCW? That's fucking weird. Not that it wasn't a good performance - it was just such an absurd over the top character. Not the sort of thing the academy usually acknowledges as even worthy of their consideration.

Otto (Kline's character): 'You pompous, stuck-up, snot-nosed, English, giant, twerp, scumbag, fuck-face, dickhead, asshole.'

Hmmm, maybe I should give Fierce Creatures a second chance. I just remember being disappointed, but then Wanda is a hard act to follow.
