hi all,

appreciate some help.
is someone able to explain to me the database doctors, gp's, chemists use in australia to prevent people from doctor shopping for pain meds?

if i go to the doctor for a torn muscle, get some pain management, what is stopping me from going to the next doctor and doing the same thing.

is it the doctor that has the database or the chemist?

cheers, and have a safe day.

kind regards,

B

not particularly helpful im sorry to say. is every visit to the doctor recorded, and everytime any person get any prescription, is that recorded?

when you go to your local gp, can he tell when the last time you were prescribed a certain pain medication?

how does it work?

They have a computer database and can pull up your history at anytime.
It shows every prescription you have filled, the date and by what doctor.

The recording is mostly done by the pharmacy’s and especially by the insurance companies.

Every hospital will check your history to check for drug seeking behavior before they treat you.
Any doctor can also look at it if so inclined.
I know my doctor gets a report sent to him that shows him the exact date I filled the prescriptions he gives me.

I can’t really say more than that. This is not a website to learn how to doctor shop.
