Critical Deconstruction of Psychedelic Neuroscience

the entirety of his position basically boils down to metaphysical dualism.

You have missed the point, the issue has very little to do with "metaphysical dualism", it's about the explanatory power of psychedelic neuroscience, - ie what can we learn about psychedelic drugs by using MRI scanners to scan the brains of people who have taken weak doses of psychedelics?

it offers absolutely no objective or novel understanding of psychedelic drugs.

This ^ is precisely the charge against this recent neuroscience research, it offers no new understanding of psychedelic drugs, it is just headline-grabbing sensationalism to impress the rubes, and it has succeeded

The brain cells are clearly contributing to conscious experience and therefore psychedelic experience, so of course it makes sense to study them and their connectivity with real time imaging.

I personally think that the idea that consciousness is an elemental phenomenon (similar to space time gravity etc.) is a good one, and the idea that with integrated networks the level of consciousness increases, is also another good idea.

If Chalmer's theory is right and consciousness is collapsing the wave form then there is a bridge between the two worlds, but in my opinion that doesn't really make consciousness a real "decision maker" or give consciousness free will, you still essentially have input and output, and even though there might be some randomness, conscious experience will still be really dependent on the brain cells, so I say study the crap out of them with whatever techniques we have.

neuropsychology is interesting

you can shit on it all you want but our behaviours are because of neurons. simple

armchair bullshit means fuck all to anyone. just look at how many people take freud seriously within psychology (having lived with a douche who loved quoting freud pointlessly)

any research into these drugs is one step closer to getting them as medicines and we all know they fucking work. duhhh. for anxiety, for depression, they definitely make a huge difference. they can snap you out of clinical depression for a week. its marvelous

but drug companies prefer an everyday drug you have to take that makes the $$$$
