Crack cocaine turns brown when smoked and tastes awful

I decided to cook up some crack recently, about 50% sodium bicarbonate to 50% coke. My method is to heat it on a spoon and then, put the spoon on an icy shot glass to make the crack rocks form. For the most part it worked however one time (from the same batch I tried smoking it and it went to a brown sticky mess like it was burning and it was very harsh. What happened here? Did I get the cut by mistake or did I just try to smoke cocaine that wasn't fully cooked. Any ideas?

Even if it wasn't fully cooked, it shouldn't have turned brown like that. I've never seen that happen anyway but yeah it could have been from whatever it was cut with. Without getting into a synthesis discussion, I believe less baking soda would yield better product. Le Junk had a method that may work even better:

the ratio of bicarbonate to cocaine you are using is wrong. its more like 1 part bicarb to four parts cocaine.

its sounds like you may have been melting excess bicarbonate
