I've been reading a bit about this lately. I'm not an IV user but I gather that people use a cotton ball to filter gear. Would a proper 18g blunt needle with a micron filter not be more ideal or does it not do the trick? Could be that they aren't redily availably as well but just wondering why you wouldn't just use a filtered draw needles instead of a non-sterile cotton ball.

I'm going to close this, as it seems like this is just coming from a place of vague curiosity. People don't use the right equipment every time because they are addicts and need to administer their drugs, regardless of whether the practice is safe, hygienic or correct. It's the nature of our condition that we make decisions that often defy common sense and reason. You could really say, that what your asking is more or less the defining aspect of addiction itself.

Also, "Cotton Fever" is not really caused by stray bits of cotton in the blood stream, it's caused by a bacteria.
