Contractor to hang for having 14.5kg of cannabis at bus terminal

JOHOR BARU: A 29-year-old contractor was sentenced to the gallows for distributing 14.49kg of cannabis at a bus terminal here.

M.A. Dickson was found guilty by the High Court here on Monday for committing the offence at the Larkin bus terminal at around 7.45pm on May 9, 2013.

He committed the offence under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 when he was found with slabs of cannabis in two bags when he arrived at the bus terminal.

High Court judicial commissioner Dr Sabirin Ja'afar said the prosecution had successfully proved a prime facie case against the accused and sentenced Dickson to be hanged.

When the sentence was pronounced, Dickson turned to look at his wife, who was seated in the public gallery.
