Hi I've had ADHD All my life and only halfway through adolescence did I start using ADHD medications and see the benefit
I'v been on adderall XR, Vyvanse, dexedrine, and now currently on desoxyn 5mg two pills twice a day works okay for me but lately feeling like I got a tolerance to it Has anyone had any luck on Compounding their ADHD medication And if so I would love to hear About it

What do you mean by compounding them? Like taking a higher dose or what?

I would imagine doing as you are asking is going to ramp up stress on the heart and lead to further tolerance gains, all the while increasing side effects while not gaining enough positive effects to warrant the downsides.

Wouldn't a tolerance break be a better choice here rather than further pushing your tolerance up.

You meant specially compounded ADHD medication (never heard of this being done for ADHD but I'm sure its possible) or do you mean combining medications?

Personally i found desoxyn to be spacey and sedating when i tried it for a month at 20mg. Had a coldness to it 🥶 That stuff is expensive, my insurance refused to cover it, wasnt worth it.

I know what you mean with insurance it cost me $150 a month pretty annoying but I hit my Deductible Usually halfway through the year so it even out but with out insurance they asking at CVS $1557.99 for 120 it's stupid The reason I bring up it at all is because my dad used to do it that way a long time ago with a Specialist at UCLA I discussed it with my psychiatrist I don't think she would do it
I wanted to know if anybody Still does that

A compounding chemist here means one who makes up the medicine from raw or partially processed ingredients rather than selling branded pill and potions produced by pharma companies. They will fill gel caps with non-branded powdered substances for example. So I figured you were asking about making your own ADHD meds from non-pharma chemical sources?

I don't think compounding of ADHD meds occurs anymore. Of course im sure it does in psychiatry but it is rare and certainly not for ADHD. Historically it didn't occur too much past a certain point in time. Compounding is a lost tool of psychiatry, psychiatrists are now too dumb and concerned with personal liability to attempt, and insurance won't cover. Moreover a young modern psychiatrist (someone my age) won't even know how to write a script for compounding.

As far as desoxyn I paid $400 for a 120 count bottle after it was scripted by a pretty open-minded psychiatrist (was his idea) because my insurance essentially said, "nope asshole, we covered the huge amounts of dextroamphetamine and dextromethylphenidate, we know your story, you want this outrageously expensive meth prescription you buy it with your own money" and of course i did but it wasn't worth it. It is too serotonergic and not noradrenergic enough at low doses so you sort of feel this cold sedation, not a fan.

I have tired that took months off and went back on my desoxyn and still nothing I seem to develop a tolerance to medications quickly and I don't know if thats what the problem it's just what guessing at
word fine for the first 3 years then notice a downside since then could just be other heath issues

I've heard taking magnesium helps to offset tolerance for stimulants. Don't really have direct experience with it to say if it really works, but magnesiums good for you so it couldn't hurt to try.

I'm no doctor but it does sound like there could be something(s) going on that's effecting this.
I'd try to have it looked into if you are able.

It does, but don’t take Magnesium Citrate because it reduces the absorption of amphetamines. Other forms of Magnesium fine. Actually any NMDA antagonist should reduce tolerance. There is also a supplement called inositol (also called vitamin B8 but it’s not really a vitamin) that upregulates dopamine receptors after they have been down regulated by amps.

The magnesium I take is a triple complex of citrate, oxide, and aspartate. Helps keep my bowels moving despite the Suboxone.
