Codeine Q

I would say that qualifies as low to moderate dose.
Would that require a taper if used for 1-2 weeks? The doctor passed me to a specialist so I won't see this particular doctor again for a while.
What side effects did you notice. I do notice more than I have had with Hydrocodone

In terms of side effects, even at the lower dosages you're taking (compared to what I was taking with it) you'll probably notice what I can only describe as a kind of manic sedation. There is also the histamine reaction from codeine, which might cause you to get itchier or get dried out more easier than with hydrocodone.

But with the dose you're at, I doubt the side effects will be problematic. If sedation isn't a huge issue and the histamine reaction is, take 25-50mg of diphenhydramine with your dose. If sedation is an issue, use one of the newer non-drowsy antihistamines.

Everyone is different, so YMMV with this, but I'd guess that taking up to 150mg/day for two weeks won't result in any significant withdrawal symptoms. Especially if you're using it medicinally and non-recreationally (opioids used for this purpose seem to rarely lead to dependency developing so quickly).

This question is for Toothpastedog but anyone can chime in!
The Doctor switched me from Tylenol with Codeine (T3) since it was not working for my Pain. My question is how much stronger is Norco 5/325 compared to 2- 30/300 Tylenol 3's?
I read 2 T-3's is equivalent to 5mg Norco. How true is this?
Thanks

That sounds about right, however according to our Opioid Conversion Chat 60mg of codeine is actually equivalent to 9mg of hydrocodone. I'd personally say 60mg of codeine is somewhere between 5-10mg (closer to 5mg IMO) of hydrocodone.

I have a question, The doctor finally prescribed Norco for my condition but I'm being passed off to the next specialist. I took my Norco which lasted me two weeks ( 60 pill count). i think any opiate will not take away my pain a 100% and I rather not go to any other medication more potent than Norco.
today I'm stuck with a real sore spine/back. I was first prescribed codeine before Norco and have them left over. I haven't taken Norco in a week. Will codeine in others opinion help at all? I am not Norco naive by all means but hadn't used them in over six months. Now I have these codeine left over.
Would they help at all?

IME opioids are opioids. I'd certainly imagine codeine would work better than nothing. Did you run out of your hydrocodone script early or you're just in-between visits or something?

I had 60 5 mg pills of Norco, didn't technically run out early but yes I did finish them. I was able to get through the evening yesterday without anything. Thank god!
I'm in between scans and a new specialist. this new docotr hasn't done his set of scans ( they will do more in several months) but the doctor said he doesn't prescribe medication. I didn't even ask for a refill or anything. I did tell him I had a current script for Norco so he was aware. He said I have to go through my personal Doc and pain management doctors. Doesn't make sense because he's a surgeon who would be doing a surgery if needed. It's probably for the best. I will need a plan if I do get a refill as giving them to my Husband to dispense to me.
Thanks for the advice!

I have now been taking codeine for about a month or so was taking methadone for about 10 years then with Dilaudid been about a month and a week since stopping methadone. New pain doc gave me hydro 5 325 but doesn't seem to help like the codeine does I have been taking around 10 t4s a day so I know that the hydros won't compare. What I want to know is if I taper the t4s or quit for a few days will the hydros work better thanks!!!!
