Pretty amazing movie. Pretty sad at times though. Lil' Zeke was one hardcore motherfucker, going into that place when he was like 10 years old and killing all those people. Its really sad how that other guy tried to clean up, and get out, but he ended up dying at that club when they shot him on the dance floor. That part really got to me, that sucks. I also liked the whole journalism aspect view of it, how the main character got into something positive like that. I dunno... bottom line is I really liked the movie, kind of left me speechless to be honest. Makes you look at life in a different way.

film: city of god

i really enjoyed watching this movie
the cinematography, the true story catch, the way the slums were pictured, the awfulness of the little kids under so much pressure of drugs, guns and bosses
it was moving and nicely fast paced

Excellent film. The cinematoraphy is breath taking. I loved the story and the characters, some of the most interesting I've seen in any film. It's definitly not the kind of thing yousee very often. I'd probably count this as one of the most original films I've come across. I've always been a fan of crime movies and this is truly one of the finest I've seen.

This is one of my favorite movies i love the cinematography and the way they showed each decade. I'm pretty sure his name is Lil' Ze not Zeke.

yes lil' ze... that bugged me too

and out of everyone in the film i thought that carrot was the worst made/played

its funny you say that cos carrot was the only professional actor in the film. ps when lil ze changes his name. i presume that scene was him selling his soul to the devil? can anyone clarify.

the only thing that bothered me was that the girls character (angelique?) didn't go anywhere . . . . It was a big lead up, and then nothing . . . . ..

great movie

i thought it was quite good, though at times i felt it was being overly violent purely to make up for what it was lacking in plot.

Lacking in plot? It was a true story, and I thought the plot was far ticker than anything else to come out in the cinema in recent years. How can you criticize the plot of a true story, especially when the person it revolved around helped write it?

^^^
come on, it wasn't too involved. anyway, how many "true" stories never have any bending of the truth for filling out the story ?

by the way, i did say i thought it was good.

Anyone seen it. It is a foreign(Brazilan) film that tell about a generation of "hoods" in the the slums of Rio de Janeiro, from when they were kids to how they took over the slums and eventualy controlled the drug traffick in and around the city and thus the city itself. Excellent movie, one of the best of all time, deffenitly check it out.

Loved it; I put it on my top 5 ever. Gave the dvd as presents to all my friends for various events, and they loved it equally. At times comedic, tragic, wrenching, insightful. A true gem.

This was an extremely well done film which I have the highest respect for, that being said, I found it depressing and I wouldn't want to watch it too many more times.

^The characters are whats important in this movie. The Characters, esp Lil Ze, are so complex, human, and beautiful (in his own really sick way), that you cant help but fall in love with the City itself.

I love this movie, watched it about 5 times so far, and it still leaves an impression.

If you liked it, do check out 'Amores Perros'. A similar feeling movie, by the director of '21 Grams' (but previous to that).

:)
