:\ I finally have access to medical marijuana (yay me!)

My problems are many, including lack of knowledge. Research shows me that this strain (Cannatonic) is helpful with GI inflammation and mood lift, without sedation.

I'm getting samples of concentrate and flower. I don't like smoking of any kind, so prefer sublingual.

My health issues are too numerous to list. My disease is not terminal, but my despair is. Something's gotta give.

Please share your knowledge if you find MMJ helpful with chronic pain or depression. I work full time and have many other responsibilities. I have no desire for couch-lock.

Thanks...DixiChik

Dixie, I have never personally found cannabis to help with pain--neither my ongoing joint pain (arthritis and symptoms of an auto-immune) nor acute pain (after surgery) but I do know other people who swear by it. What I use cannabis for is sleep and for that it is a miracle drug for me. (Ok, I also use it for fun but that's recreational and we are talking medical here;)).

Be aware of this: it may not have a positive effect on depression. Then again, it may. Just be very aware of your state of mind when you use it so that you can determine if it is helping or hurting in that department. (Again, I have friends that will not ever use cannabis as it exacerbates anxiety and depression for them and I have friends that use it because it relieves anxiety and depression so there you have it: our bodies are all very different as are the sources of our anxieties and depressions.)

I make canna butter and ingest it that way usually. I did buy a vaporizer but I don't like it.

BTW, my husband has lymphoma and he uses a high CBD strain for that but he feels that adding some THC helps him to not get depressed.

:) Thank you, herby! I'm told the Cannatonic has some THC for mood lift as well.

I feel like such an idiot from lack of knowledge. The only "recreational drug" I ever used was alcohol in HS/Ole Miss. I tried smoking some Indica from a compassionate friend last year. There's no way I could function, but I giggled a lot.

I'm in PM, but just don't get relief from Oxycodone. It hits fast, but exits just as rapidly, leaving me feeling pissed off and sad(er). I could become a menace to society (or at least my husband). :X

I get so angry at this fucking disease and doctors' apathy towards treating it. The Lupron ravaged my bone health, so I suffer horribly with arthritis too.

pot works for some, and not others.

try it and see if it works for YOU.

Wax combined w/ methadone is much better for pain for me. Oh, and edible stuff stabilizes the high.

Sorry, had to "google" wax...laugh if you must. It's okay!

I have a compassionate friend with MMJ card. He's treating symptoms very different from mine. He prefers to smoke the weed. He will get me whatever I think may help my pain/depression.

For me, cost IS a factor. I don't have disposable income to throw at this. I realize it's trial and error. The dispensary folks told him that MMJ enemas are good for severe GI issues.

right on, congrats on getting MMJ! typically the indica-heavy strains cause more of a couchlock effect, though the threshold for medicinal effects may be lower than the threshold for unwanted mental effects. the most cost-effective method of ingestion is vapourizing, although its efficacy seems to vary from person to person. generally it takes a bit of tolerance to get used to the mental effects and not feel "off" from them.

=D Hey thujone...I wanted to pm you with questions, but thought "I'm just a pain in everybody's ass".

Do you think Cannatonic is a good one to try? I work full time and have familial burdens befitting a team of oxen. I'll just say that my 5 older sibs are not equally yoked with my 90 year old mom (spawn of Satan).

I've embraced the fact that my PAIN cannot be managed with me remaining on my feet. Depression will take me OUT if I'm forced to go horizontal. Sometimes I think FUCK IT! I'm almost 55...have no desire to see my "golden years", as I see how that story ends daily at my mom's nursing home. Am I insane for not taking the Oxy I'm prescribed to feel some semblance of release...um, relief?

Vaping is expensive, isn't it? I like that idea, but I think I'm incapable of figuring it all out. Can you tell me more? Be warned...I'm a dumb ass with this stuff.

Funny, but not...We had to visit a "sex shop" fronting a "paraphernalia shop" for "herb". Yep, 2 middle age goobs shopping for my first water pipe. It was a hoot.

This same friend had sent some Indica for me to try. My husband had smoked in college, so he's tried teaching me how to smoke. I'm not a good student, so he got high AF demonstrating! Although it was one of the most carefree, shits and giggles I've experienced in my lifetime...I can't function that way.

I feel blessed to have a friend willing to help me, as I have nieces in Oregon who won't. He's just finishing another round of chemo, and only now decided to apply for MMJ card. Of course, he received his card within 2 weeks and has easy access to dispensaries. He and his wife shopped the Cannatonic concentrate for me. It should arrive by Monday.

Meanwhile, I would be ever so grateful for any suggestions/thoughts you have for me. I have stage 4 endometriosis, 22 years post surgery (3) to remove uterus/ovaries. I have horrid pelvic/rectal/vaginal pain, and bowel/bladder choked by adhesions. I also live with joint deterioration caused by Lupron used to treat this insidious disease. I can deal with the pain better than the suicidal depression. I'm hoping the THC will make me "the happy camper". =D

Sorry, I don't know a thing about Cannatonic specifically :( I'm slightly dubious about tying specific strains to specific medicinal uses because of phenotypical variations plus a number of dispensaries/MMJ sources have been suspected of buying from unlicensed growers and mislabeling strains they sell. For an MMJ user, the integrity of your source is going to have a considerable impact on your quality of care.

The setup costs of vaping is high but has been falling for years, reliable units like the Volcano or HerbalAire (my preferred) go for $200-$500 but the efficiency makes up for it in a month or two. I would still say it's worth trying before buying because, as others have discussed here recently, it just doesn't provide much of an effect for some people versus smoking or edibles.

Generally the humble herb is not going to dissolve the pain the way Oxy can but in terms of management and life quality it can for sure have a phenomenal impact and is worth giving it the time it may take to adjust to a good routine, try a number of strains and see which can offer the best combination of pain management and mental clarity. Feel free to PM me anytime, though a couple of regulars here do work in the MMJ industry so when you post publicly you can draw on a wealth of knowledge :)

Hey thujone...THANK YOU for your time and effort to respond. I really appreciate it. I realize cannabis won't relieve my pain.

The Oxycodone doesn't either, yet I jump through hoops for "pain management"...I'm beginning to think FFS, dealing with a bat shit crazy PM specialist who spews venom towards females in general, is easier than shopping for medicinal weed.

I don't need perfect...just fucking possible, at this point.

Life just shouldn't be this hard. Death would be a welcome embrace at this point.

I've heard this strain supposively going be one of the choices for me because I suffer severe anxiety, have tried numerous benzo tapers - but kept messing them up, I also summer bad insomnia... and depression. I would love to order some "Blue Dream" as well as Cannatonic, I'll have my medical license near the end of August. yay for me.

:\ supeudol...Your "license" or your "card"?

I'm a greenhorn, but eager to learn.

I thought Cannabis was legal without MMJ card in Canada.

:) I'm trying the concentrate drops under my tongue. I have Cannatonic for inflammation/pain relief and Durban Poison for energy/mood lift.

I put 2/3 dropper under my tongue almost an hour ago. I don't feel any different yet. I was hoping to feel like a towel fresh from the dryer...all warm and fuzzy! Nope. I have a sample of the Cannatonic to smoke, but I'm no fan of smoking ANYTHING.

Hey DixiChik - I remember reading another one of your threads and feeling bad that you were unable to access medicine, so I'm glad you've finally found some. I think Cannatonic will be a great strain as the CBD should help a lot. I personally have found high-CBD strains to help with depression. If you're not getting the immediate effects you're looking for, I'd slowly increase your dosage until you do, but also keep in mind that using cannabis regularly over a longer period will help improve chronic conditions, as the cannabinoids help your body's own system for better health, so it may take a little while of daily dosing before you start to see significant improvement. For long term medical use, I think regular oral dosing is the way to go.

I'd also be careful how much information you give out about how you are sourcing your medicine as well, if it's still illegal where you live. Just a heads up. Good luck medicating!

I recommend that you make a high CBD infused coconut oil. Have that in your fridge, and start vaping wax with a THIS THING RIPS vape pen :) wax is cheap at 30$/gram, you'll see. But adding the edible into your daily routine will keep you from smoking too much wax ;) gl -cfzrx

Hey thujone...THANK YOU for your time and effort to respond. I really appreciate it. I realize cannabis won't relieve my pain.

sure thing :)

tinctures/edibles can take a while to kick in but if you're feeling nothing after an hour it could be the concentration is low and you haven't reached the threshold of effects yet

=D THANK Y'ALL for your ideas and suggestions!

CfZrx...I've never "vaped" but I'm curious. I've got to somehow figure out which strain offers the most benefits (if any) for me. Pain is horrific, but cannot be realistically "medicated" via prescription. I've had to endure it for decades. I'm finding as I've grown older...FFS, I can't do this any more!

My husband wants me to retire. I refuse. I AM my work. I've just somehow lost hope of "better days" health wise. This damn disease robbed me of my fertility and dreams of a family. It basically neutered/castrated and crippled me. I'm suffering with the significant bone loss caused by the chemotherapy and inability to take HRT...ever.

I feel like such a dumb ass when it comes to meds or marijuana. That's because I AM.

thujone...I'm sure you're right. I guess I expected to take the drops and feel "something" within the hour. Patience has never been a virtue. I thought it would "hit" like the Indica I smoked last year. Not gonna lie...I'll take whatever pain relief I can get from MMJ, but I want to feel the kick of energy/focus/motivation.

Yesterday, I took 2/3 dropper before noon...nothing detectable (but the skunk spray taste!) About 3:00 I took another dose. The most I felt was a little drowsy...not what I hoped for. I'm going to keep trying.

I need a guardian angel to take me under their wing and teach me. I have so much more to GIVE this world, if only I can remain upright.

My husband has suggested we move to a legal state. We think that we're too old to relocate home-wise and job-wise. I told him perhaps there is a place for us old fuckers with young spirits in the legal states...

Nah, I've not only missed the bus of life, the fucker ran over me! I'm hearing beeping sounds, so I think it's backing up for another roll.:!

OT but a brief trial of Kratom helped the depression/lack of motivation last summer. Shortly thereafter I was hospitalized for a partial obstruction. I think that with my massacred GI, it could have been the Kratom. Thoughts anyone?

I thought Cannabis was legal without MMJ card in Canada.

Just wanted to address this FYI, as I was reading through the thread and saw this query, and I happen to be Canadian.

It's not legal without a card, but it's largely decriminalized in smaller amounts. Certain dispensaries (and I suppose other random people probably) still get raided time to time, one place in Toronto just did not long ago, but the current government has promised to legalize it within perhaps a year. So there are people in prison now looking at real hard time who would be just typical merchants a year from now.

God keep our land, glorious and free, indeed.

I'm dabbing Cannaberry right now and with some research it does look to be similar to Cannatonic (both being CBD strains with at least one same cross). Both strains are high in CBD, but be aware that the same strain will not always have the same ratio of CBD to THC. Even though a strain may be heavy in CBD, it's still up to the grower to "fine tune it".

For example, I've seen Cannaberry range anywhere from 1:1 to 4:1 (CBD to THC) and I'd assume that Cannatonic has a similar profile. If it's possible, get the MMJ patient to give you a print out/labels of the products he is buying. This way, you will know the exact percentages you are taking.

Some strains like Charlottes Web will have a much different range of somewhere around 20:1 CBD to THC.

If you don't like smoking and you have access to concentrates then it might be in your interest to learn about low temperature dabbing. Dabbing can get expensive so if you know a patient with a dab rig, ask them to help you out. Remember the term "low temp" and if your friend doesn't know what it means then you should probably not use that friend.

A dab taken at a low enough temp and small enough of a hit will never waste your product or make you cough. It takes experience to get the right temp and dab size so please use a friend if you have one.
