How do you get it preescribed to detox from opioids? If I went to A&E would they prescribe at least something like clonidine for withdrawal?
Coming off IV heroin and I do wanna quit but I can't cope with the withdrawal. It's the restless legs that bother me the most and general malaise.
I also get a really bad cough when withdrawing. Is that common? I have done all usual opioids at least once but only heroin makes me get a cough when withdrawing. I had to call the ambulance twice a couple of months ago due to this cough and feeling of breathlessness due to being full of mucus that I was getting. Was a waste of time both times to go to the hospital for that.
What resources are available in the UK that don't involve dealing with my GP? Can I go on subs immediately if I see an addiction specialist somehow?

No you cannot go to A&E for that, they will not give you anything for opiate withdrawal.

You can self refer to your local drug services and they will give you an assessment appointment (usually within a week or so) and you will then have to piss dirty for opiates at least once, sometimes they will ask you to come back and do the same again a few days later. Depends where you are. Assuming you test positive for opiates you will then be given a prescription for bupe that you will take to a specific chemist and the induction process will begin. You will have to go and consume the bupe under supervision at the chemist for minimum a month but more likely two or more.

It’s a pretty simple process, if you call on Monday then you should be on a script within ten days. They will share all this info with your GP though. Why do you want to avoid them?

What are you on about ?Just go to your local NHS drug clinic and you´ll come out with a prescription for either (supervised ) Buprenorphine/Methadone within a couple hours (if that long ).
UK offering one of the most efficient, organized drug rehab programs in Europe and , alas, here you are making it look like some 3rd world country 😂.

Alright ...little (if anything ) has changed then. Missed this post. Exactly the way it was last time I needed their help.

Was about to answer you're wrong but I realised I was right when I was thinking you were just being sarcastic lol

When has this NHS rehab clinics common procedure changed ? I´m actually shocked that two resident Brits are telling me that they somehow find it tricky to instantly get on a free Methadone/Buprenorphine program in the UK.

As others have said, contact your local services - one of the big ones is 'We Are With You' (formerly Addaction) and they will assess you and will be able to provide opioid replacement therapy. I don't know where you are but there should be services near you and if can't find them, ask the GP and they might even refer you but they will at least give you the contact details and We Are With You have been great in my experience. They really can help you and can get you something to get you off the gear. It isn't always quick and is based on your habit. I can't speak for other services but I'm sure that they are just as good or they will have a WAWY somewhere near you, even if it's a bit of a travel. But make an appointment straight away. The government/healthcare system has palmed these vital, life changing services onto the "third sector/charity" but they are the people you call for help.

Good luck mate. You can get better if you want to and these people can actually help you. The GP can do fuck all except for give you a number, possibly refer you.
