Assistant principal who wanted to try marijuana for her 50th ends up hospitalized and in jail after overdosing on cannabis cookies brought home by her daughter

A Florida vice principal who wanted to try marijuana for the first time on her 50th birthday found herself in a hospital after overdosing on cannabis - and later in jail.

Donna Lynch Haff overdosed Monday on cookies made with cannabis oil after her 19-year-old daughter Allison brought the 'special' treats home, Pasco County Sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll said.

Allison Haff got the cookies from a co-worker and brought them home for her mother, who works as the assistant principal of Anclote High School in Holiday, Florida.

On Sunday, she was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital North in Tampa after eating too much of the drug-laced edible.

The following day both were taken into custody but were released from jail the some day.

They were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

Haff did not return to her job on Tuesday and was placed on administrative leave while the matter was investigated.

'We can’t have our administrators in a position where they’re facing felony charges for using drugs,' Pasco County School District Spokeswoman Linda Cobbe told WFLA.

Students were floored to learn about the administrator's arrest and said it was completely out of character for her.

'Oh yeah, for sure I was shocked cause I wasn’t thinking it wasn’t her doing it, especially not her,' Braxton Johnson told WFLA.

Braxton said students have already created memes of the assistant principal and that the day had been 'crazy'.

'She was a good principal. She always wanted you to do the right things,' he said.

It's unclear if the women have retained attorneys.

'It’s out of character for this woman that everyone is shocked and of course it’s disturbing. But given what we know at this time we have to take action,' Cobbs said.

What are the odds she ate the whole tray and not just 1 or 2?

Would it make the news if she OD on alcohol or oxy I wonder?

With a t-shirt like that, I'm not surprised this went down tbph.

Boneheaded move on her part or not, don't ruin this woman's career (and life in general) because she decided to consume plant matter which is now legalized in several states including California.

Have her pay 100% of her medical bills related to this incident and perhaps a few hours of community service at most and then leave her be. Good grief - she's not some non-productive menace to society.

I am kinda surprised it's felony possession, maybe because it's an edible? Florida does have some fucked up laws. That part of the country could not be more different than California (both are hot, but in the same way that a porn star is a hot and an obese person's rolls of fat get hot...and sweaty).

The woman ate way too much at once that's a mistake a lot of people make. But it won't kill you. They should have looked that up before going to the hospital.

This is so sad. I'm a teacher in my home state of Vermont and I can guarantee you that if one of our instructors overdoses on Cannabis, there would be absolutely no retribution. People would just feel bad and want to help her through the difficult experience. For the past couple years in the state though, it's been de facto legal. Police will only give you a hard time if you're smoking in the direct vicinity of others. The bums get pinched often because they're smoking in places like City Hall Park where there are pedestrians and children present.

I agree with that logic anyway. Not everyone wants to be exposed to Marijuana smoke. That's how it is and if you can't respect that, then you deserve a ticket. What's happened to this woman is an embarassment. I hope this doesn't become the new reality with our new Fuhrer.
