Anticholinergic hallucinations

Hello there,

im searching for a long while what causes the realistic hallucinations during a delirant trip like on antcholinergics. I mean, thats very scary: you interact with your hallucinations that are very complex. Like talking with imaginary persons, playing games on your hallucinated computer and so on. As far as i know, anticholinergics like Scopolamine works as an antagonist on muscaric acetycholinereceptor. This casues critical changes on your cognition. But what means that for the brain? For example 5ht2a agonism drugs lead to changes in the thalamus witch causes the trip. But what about anticholinergics? How they are able to create a "world" in your mind that looks so realistic?
 
Isnt parkinsons desease treated with cholinergics and isnt delirium a common complication related to parkinsons desease ? Maybe theres more about this in papers related to parkinsons desease
 
I think your thinking of alzheimers anticholinergics are used in parkinsons because by blocking muscarinic receptors they can indirectly improve symptoms of movement disorders in a way like l dopa by interacting in the substancia nigra where normally dopamine and acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors are in balance. However the side effect is commonly delirium because muscarinic receptors play a critical role in memory and cognition.

Quite a few studies have been done on this subject and I have quoted a few links hereunder that you may find informative, explaining the psychopharmacological effects of different anticholinergic chemicals on the brain, the role that muscarinic receptors play in different mental states, the interaction between Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and the cholinergic system and also some specific pharmacokinetic data on anticholinergic-induced hallucinations and delirium.

Most psychedelics cause auditory-, and visual hallucinations, with varying intensities that are considered to me “mild” compared to what delirium-inducing chemicals can do to the human brain and its perception of stimuli and how the de-coding of external sensory input is processed and then ultimately how the user experience its surroundings in that state. Delirium is exactly how it sounds, it is a state where the real and the perceived sensory data flooding the brain is intertwined and where the real sensory data and the “perceived” sensory data cannot be distinguished from one another. This is where “true hallucinations” are experienced. With psychedelics, you still have somewhat of an idea of what is real at that moment and what is perceived, obviously dependent on the dosage and nature of the trip, with deliriants you can’t distinguish between the two.
 
Interestingly when i saw spiders from prolonged benzenesulfuric acid expsure diphenhydramine cured it (75 mg) but also high doses of diphenhydramine make me see spiders. I think what a big peice of it is your brain making sense of the physical sensations i was getting these things burns and eventually my body started seeing spiders because it was so depleted of protective coating on the skin that everything felt like spider bites. And at high dose dph your becoming so dry normally unnoticabke stimulus is super painful
